Re-Creating AMVS that are your own

Has anyone ever recreated an AMV that is your own, because you thought you could make way better than it was when you made it, because of your improved skills? I'm thinking of doing this with most of my beginning amvs. Do you think it's a good idea? I could keep the old ones here on the site, and then make the new ones(way better) and call them their original name, and say Re-created.

I'm just thinking it may or may not be a good idea... What do you think?

I would say only do it if the idea was great, but the editing didn't do it justice. Don't just do it to improve it.

I remade my first video two years later, and I still wasn't satisfied with it. Sometimes I get the urge to rebuild it again, but that would take time away from newer projects. I see it as a matter of deciding when I had learned what I needed to learn from the video. After a video teaches me everything it can, it deserves a rest.

Will remaking your old videos help you grow? That's something you have to decide for yourself.

I redid my first with better footage and a few improvements... but mostly it ended up being the same, I wouldn't want it "too" different, because then it would be... well, different AMV, and I don't want that ><

For the longest time I wanted to go back and remake my first video, because of all the horrible newb mistakes I made with it. But recently I looked back on it and enjoyed seeing where I first started out as an editor and how far I've come since then. So the idea to remake it has left my mind for good now.

That, and I REALLY don't want to edit to fucking Nickleback ever again ...

So far I've only gone back and updated one of my videos, but that was mostly due to the fact that I thought I didn't encode the source well enough at the time in order to do the video justice. Didn't really change anything other then clean up the source more and release the vid with x.264 instead of mpeg2. I have often thought of going back and re-doing Dance 2.0, mostly due to the fact that the released version is actually a beta I was lucky enough to render out and rescue from a HD crash. Though since I lost all of the source with the crash, and those pics don't show up on 4chan anymore, I've kind of not bothered. After all, without most of the same clips, it just wouldn't be the same video. Perhaps if I ever have the funds to send the drive to a recovery center and get the data back I'll go back and see about that update.

I've also thought about going back and re-doing We Need for Speed using the Blu-ray and editing at 60fps, but I've been much too lazy to even attempt that yet.

I was against it for a while, but I re-made my first 50 DBZ videos over the course of 8 months.

The first time I did it:

The first couple (the Escaflowne video) I just felt my skills had improved and I wanted to go back and fix the issues I had from the first video. If I compare to my work now, even the remake isn't up to par either, though.

The second couple (magical girl stuff) I did a remake especially for a convention I had a panel at. My panel was on magical girl amvs so it fit the theme. The original I remember when I made it I was loling at the fact I put all these pointless effects in it. The second time around I had a better idea of how effects should look, and wanted to get rid of the clutter. Different mindset makes all the difference.

And I don't regret remaking either, "strong concept" or no. If you really feel compelled to remake a video then do it. While you still may not feel satisfied even the second time around, at least you can sit back and look at how much you have improved. And if you only want people to see one of the videos, you can always hide the old one on your profile, just uncheck it from your "top videos" list.

OMG! If it was a song I hated I would definitely not go re-do it. Hahaha.

Yeah and I've decided, Let people look at my old videos and think: Newb. I don't care, I'll just show my improvement through my newer videos. Yep. I guess I won't remake it. They are my first videos. I shouldn't worry about what people think of them, especially when they are pretty decent amvs. Anyways, I guess I haven't really been doing it for too long... it's only been two years since I started...
