Gah, that's what I think anyway. Then again, I can't really talk since I haven't attempted to make such an AMV >.>Malificus wrote:I can't express how much I disagree with this statement right now.Pas1990 wrote:Anyway, I don't think when you're really serious about making a ultimate AMV that many people will praise, that you really enjoy making it. Are amvs fun??

I don't really consider that a discription of someone that makes vids just for fun.
Sounds more like someone who just doesn't care about what they are doing.
I make videos just for fun
I enjoy putting an anime I like along to a song i like and care about following all the technical stuff to make sure I can do it the best I can.
If it wasn't fun doing them, i wouldn't be in this hobby
Just desn't seem like a fitting discription to me...
Even though I do edit, I don't think i fully fit into any of the above
Could have read it wrong since im tired but that just doesn't sound right to me
So AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun as well as Solid-AMV-Editor and Pro-AMV-Editor also do amvs just for fun . but they are more "solid" and care about the others' opinions more.
ahh
I see what you are saying
Maan i gotta stop making posts when im out of it like this...
Id get some rest but twilight princess keeps calling me
I knew the game would be good, but dang!
Shoulda bought it a while back
maybe 3 more hours wouldn't hurt?
Sorry if I came off rude with my post

Heeh~
I guess I'd be a "solid editor" if it weren't for these conditions:
It's not "easily satisfied" because those who start out awful have a lot of work to do before reaching that "finally acceptable" stage. It's not "lazy" because you can put a crapload of effort into quality, exporting, codecs without being anal about it. Just try ripping and precleaning 60+ sources for a single video and having the quality look consistently good in a small xvid encode and then tell me that's "lazy" just because you chose xvid instead of mp4 for that final 30 minutes of encoding. I cry "bullshit". Loudly. That's like saying you're lazy if you don't use difficult effects in a video. Sure, it's extra work for those who do them, and good for them, but if you don't like them and you don't see the need for them, you don't use them, and laziness has nothing to do with it.
Meh, I'd be a retired/vacationing editor if I'd qualified for either of the 'pre' stages.
I just got disillusioned with the "sharing" aspect - don't like the editor-based viewing community anymore, and even if you don't announce your vids on the forum, they still download and complain about them. After a few years of having the same group of people tell you the same thing, you start wishing they'd get a clue that you have different tastes and stop downloading your videos already. And I switched hobbies, so I've little time to make them for myself now - I can enjoy imaginary/potential vids just by listening to the music, if I'm the only one watching then actually making those vids would be redundant.
I've always been a bigger fan of watching vids than making them myself. Because being an editor requires effort and downloading only requires an internet connection. So much easier~
And much more fun.
I guess I'd be a "solid editor" if it weren't for these conditions:
There must be some in between for those who start as an "editor just for fun" and work through a "I want to do better" phase before reaching a "this is where I wanted to be" stage and stopping right there. After a certain point, you fix the things that you recognize as being bad in your vids (improving by accepting criticism) and then - it's all fixed - so you're happy. Satisfied. Content. What's that kind of editor called?Lok1990 wrote:....they always want to be better.

good question. This editor is called "AMV-Editor-between-AMV-Editor-Just-For-Fun-and-Solid-AMV-Editor "Arigatomina wrote:There must be some in between for those who start as an "editor just for fun" and work through a "I want to do better" phase before reaching a "this is where I wanted to be" stage and stopping right there. O.o i am quite surprised that i have the talent of giving name
*stabs myself with knife*
"they" refer to "some of them"Anyway some of them are not much influenced by quality instead they focus on editing, synch and action flow. they don't bother with the quality, exporting, codecs and have fun editing.
so it's actually not all "Solid Editors" will ignore the quality and such.
XD it is harder than i thought to complete my Prof. Lok's-AMV-Editor-dex
there are still much more to cover.

I like 'Established AMV Editor' better. You could put it between the "solid" and "pro" because they've already finished the "always strive to be better stage" - they just quit before getting swallowed up by the "must please others and win awards" stage.
I don't wanna be stuck between the "can't edit for crap" stage and the "just coming into my own" stage.

Nah, just let anyone who's done his amv-time slip into the 'retired' stage. That way it doesn't matter where they were beforehand. They're all the same once they stop making vids.

That sucks. You were always one of my favorite editors and one of the ones who inspired me to edit myself.Arigatomina wrote:Meh, I'd be a retired/vacationing editor if I'd qualified for either of the 'pre' stages.

I still claim to edit just for fun, because it still is fun for me... I know I could use "more improving" but I'm pretty happy with where I am at the same time
and some people enjoy spending countless hours making effects... or perhaps its the results those countless hours create... I recall while Jay was editing Skittles he would sigh while he was rotoscoping, yet when he got a short clip or the "final result" he would get all excited and go "you gotta see this hahaha" and yes he would laugh all evil like O:
also probably the hardest bit of editing I had ever done, I didnt enjoy the building part of making it but when I saw the result in the end it made me happy i put in the work and I liked the result a lot
Stalk me?

Oh, I never called that into question. I've drawn and animated a video using a mouse. It took me half a year of putting in hours every single day to complete. I enjoyed the hell out of that obsession from start to finish. But that was my choice. I don't think it's lazy to choose not to do that for every single video.JaddziaDax wrote:and some people enjoy spending countless hours making effects...
It's the idea that if you don't put in that extra effort (whether you enjoy it or not, whether it's necessary or not) you're automatically lazy. Never agree to that. No way. You can enjoy a simple easily made video without it being a sign that you're lazy. Some videos are very easy to make in a few short hours and they still please reviewers as well as the difficult ones (if not more so, considering I never announced that one).
It's just the sharing aspect. I still get as many vid ideas as ever. There's just less point in making them when I can get the same enjoyment out of listening to the song and imagining the vid as I would watching a finished project. Until all the vids on the org are so high quality I have to get a new computer just to watch them, I'll still be downloading and fangirling. Making vids was never as much fun as watching them, anyway.devilmaykickass wrote:I can definitely understand what you're saying though.
