AMV: Just effects?

ok i've watched this thread for as long as i can without stating my own non binding, non conclusive opinion.
First i'd like to know if all the people decrying digital effects are themselves capable of using them. I'm willing to bet that the majority haven't or won't learn After effects. And i'm sure that the remaining percentage that does know how to use effects is the more moderate type (i.e. "digital effects have a place when used to enhance not detract")
If you don't like euphoria, thats fine. But to claim that its not an AMV and is tainting the AMV pool for going beyond using basic dissolves is just sad.
I feel i can speak with some measure of perspective because until recently (march, 04) my only editing tool was tmpgenc. just basic cuts smashed together. I still enjoy the videos i made using that method, but i've spent the last few months learning premiere and after effects. Right now i'm working on a video that simply would have been impossible for me to make using just tmegenc reguardless of how much time i put into it.
Of course i could go crazy with the blurs, transitions, and echos like i've seen in a some videos and wreck the impact i'm trying to achieve. However i'm only trying to enhance my video with "effetcs" ( wow i almost feel like i have to say that like its a dirty word around here sometimes)
In the end i feel that people who hate effects are like the kids in grade school who only have the box of 16 crayons and are bitching at the kids with the 64 crayon box ( with the built in crayon sharpener rememeber?) and saying, "red-orange? the hell with that i use red or orange but not both at once and any picture you make with that isn't really a picture but just some crayon effects you made to impress the kids in the grades below us."

i was gona type a long thing, but i will condense it:
two types of effects:
1. stuff you can noticably see, like piano keys
2. not so noticable, mostly masking
first is what most people are pissed off about, cause they distract more and can be used a lot more easily then the second. the second is probably the best as you edit your footage to create your scene. you don't want someone talking, remove the lip flaping and replace it with the mouth being closed... don't want extra movement in the background? remove it and replce it with something static. want a charactor here that isn't? add em. this way i a lot harder to create, but is less noticable (depending on what you do that is).
Euphoria is not an "effects" video... it's a video that uses effects to achive a feeling and suports the concept of the video... There is a story behind all the eye candy... look for it. how else can you create the effect of dreaming? koop did it well...
finaly, anyone who thinks that you need effects to make a good video or win contests can go ahead and quit now... that's my opinion... if you have that mindset, then why are you here? don't ask me for help if thats what you think...

I use Effects because what I envision when the Concept of the video first kicks in, is more than the footage itself can possibly offer, make something that I can truly call my own...
although, I do love seeing people get on their soap boxes and whine about it.
I'm gonna take a moment and quote one of my favorite movie lines as an analogy.

"Anybody who tells you money is the root of all evil doesn't fucking have any"
