Bah, it irritates me that the majority of the Org consider this whole thing to be a contest. Make videos that you'll want to watch over and over, yourself, and fuck everyone else's opinion.

This is a hobby, not a business.

Hmm you know I see that alot, I even say it, and I would only make a movie that interested me and I liked, that to me is important, but if we truly only made them for ourselves, then why would we upload them for other people to rate and review and see for that matter, truth is we all want opinions and to be even more truthfull we wan't people to see what we see in our movies and hope that they get what we do out of it, and we also want help in getting better, so we can make better movies for ourselves and for others to view, so technically we do not only make them for ourselves, or we would only keep them for ourselves, or maybe a few selective friends. Everyone to some degree wants their movies to get some kind of attention

Sure, ocean, everyone wants their vids to get some kind of attention. The problem is that most editors seem to make vids for the attention alone.

The question shouldn't be "How can I top Euphoria?", but "How can I create a vid I like more than Euphoria?"

Why should we be worried about who's going to top who now? Koop did a wonderful job with it, and we should (instead of insulting) be respecting Koop for his accomplishment! However, if one wants to really be better than Koop, then start WORKING instead of complaining! All it takes is hard work, luck, talent, and a good source of caffiene. Oh and don't use Naruto. That too.

That statement gives me the need to break the old DZB dvds, Linkin Whaaa CDs, and cut loose in avid liquid!

If that's the case, there's no point being here at the org since it's about sharing, not keeping to yourself. If you're gonna just do that, then uh, Don't be here? :?

I think if people want to make vids for themselves, that's fine. I do that on rare occasions anyway...

But there are SOME people who want to compete to be the best and they use other videos as a benchmark. Is that wrong? I don't see how it would be since an opinion is true to one but not to others...

I believe if I can top Beast and Euphoria, I'd be better than you all... All of you would LOVE ME AND DESPAIR!!!!

But, I haven't done it yet so until I do, I might as well keep trying...

What saddens me is when people watch Euphoria and think:

"Damn, I'll never be THAT good, so what's the point of editing?"

Shit, if you're gonna think like that, you'll never amount to anything in real life either... [there's ALWAYS someone better than you so since there's always someone out better than you at everything you do, then uh... You're gonna just die not doing anything? dur... :P ]

I think for sure that Someone CAN TOP EUPHORIA... Why? Cause people asked if Odorikuruu can be topped, me being one of them...

TOP YOUR VIDS DARN IT! IF THAT'S YOUR DRIVE TO EDIT, SO BE IT! IF YOU EDIT CAUSE YOU WANT TO, SO BE IT!!!

I don't think it can be done. I think it's too late for that. I think there's a chance of making something that will sit up there with Euphoria and the Beast, but not top either. The three vids will just play leap frog until a fourth comes along and so on. I think once a vid gets a certain number of reviews, it will never move down enough to be 'replaced' or 'displaced' for more than a week or two. Other great vids might get enough ops to compete and sit next to the other two, but those two will also continue to get ops and the list is ranked according to op count and reviewability above all else. Op count has no place to go but up. If I were better at math, I could probably find an inarguable proof of the impossibility of 'beating' a video with that many ops [assuming you don't cheat or engage a full-out spam op attack on the competition].

Displace the top vid? Not likely. Make something just as well liked and popular? Entirely possible.

Fan communities are more than just comparing the fanwork to see who's best. Sometimes it's nice just to talk to other people who like to make the same things you make. Nice to see other videos that you didn't make yourself. The org was an archive, right? Remember that? You list the vids you've made because that's what members agree to do when they join up. If you want to take advantage of the free hosting so you can link your friends to your vids, there's nothing wrong with that, either. No one is forced to download amvs so it's not like submitting an article to a journal for peer review. You uploaded it, yeah, but you're not forcing anyone to watch it or even acknowledge its existence. Just because you use your membership to have a ready host for your vid collection doesn't mean you're interested in the competition some members of the site thrive off of. It can just mean you joined a community that offers free hosting and decided to take advantage of the perks that come with signing up. If we had an option to deny opinions on our vids, I'm sure quite a few people would check it because while they do choose to 'share' that doesn't mean they're interested in being compared, ranked, or even told what other people think. Maybe they just want their vids to be seen for the sake of knowing they were seen. The site can be used anyway you want. It's not just for those interested in competition. Even a member who lists all his vids but uploads none of them is as welcome here as the competitors. Listing is the point of the site, not sharing.
