Did you hate 2003?Beowulf wrote:I despised 2004 and if the scene is "transitioning" into what is to become norm, then I don't want any part of it.

There are a several reasons I loathed 2004 as a year for AMVs.dokool wrote:I agree with the call for clarification. Beowulf, you and your brother are two of the strongest editors in the scene, so if you have a problem with what's happening, you can change that, making a vague reference to the year sucking and the scene going downhill doesn't help anyone.
1. Editing took second seat behind special effects. To me, editing is king. Anything and everything can be said with cuts and fades. While that is somewhat of an intolerant statement the opposite is also true in the sense that all editing tools are just that, and given the proper use, can enhance the concept greatly.
2. There is no content anymore. Most of everyone's concepts are unforgivably unoriginal and the ones that ARE original are mostly lame. No one is saying anything. No statements are being made in videos recently. And to add insult to injury, not only are these videos not riddiculed but they are celebrated and immortalized in the top 10. This has gotten to such a point that newbies are making fucking threads asking people if its ok if they don't have huge effects in their videos. Its disgusting.
3. All my favorite creators are not driving the AMV scene anymore. The only thing more frustrating than seeing people celebrate mediocrity is to see people ignore greatness. I know people will just call me xenophobic and say that I'm elitist but the new batch of unknown Spanish dudes making Naruto videos with the same fucking band ARE NOT what I call "the next wave" of videos or "the next evolution" of video making. I'm older than most of the artists people are using now. Thats obscene.
The only people that come to mind as realy creative people with something to say are the Skyline crew. Thats it.

Same with almost every MEP out there.mexicanjunior wrote:So every video needs some kind of message in it? Dude, I'm in trouble...Beowulf wrote: 2. There is no content anymore. I have to add my voice to those who never considered making statements... well, aside from the statement of "I'm bored and I've got fun programs and footage to play with".Beowulf wrote:2. Yes, we all know how you feel about <i>that video</i>...Beowulf wrote:And to add insult to injury, not only are these videos not riddiculed but they are celebrated and immortalized in the top 10.
Okay, I have to agree that that thread really did make me sad.Beowulf wrote:This has gotten to such a point that newbies are making fucking threads asking people if its ok if they don't have huge effects in their videos. Its disgusting.
Who don't even have "Skyline" in <a href="http://www.randomdestination.com">their studio</a>'s name anymore.Beowulf wrote:The only people that come to mind as realy creative people with something to say are the Skyline crew. Thats it.

lessthanthree to trythil, as usual.
Thank you all for summarizing the year, because I couldn't be bothered to follow the scene this year for the most part. I downloaded some stuff; I liked some of it; that's about all.
I intend to pass the time making things that entertain me, as always. And drink quite a bit of coffee. Get me caught up again in December 2005; this was fun.
