I wouldn't mind having my videos played at all. That's why I uploaded them to a public site; so that people could have access to them. Whether it's someone watching them at home on their own PC or playing it on a TV in a store doesn't really make that much of a difference to me. If I didn't want them to be seen, I wouldn't have uploaded them period. It's not like they're ripping the studio bumpers off or anything, so the credit is still there. Therefore, I personally wouldn't have a problem with it.

I drew a stick figure on a piece of paper, I'm an ARTIST!!

This isn't art. It CAN be creative, however, it serves no purpose other than to relieve boredom. Don't take offense to this, but anyone can create an amv. Anyone can learn Premiere and After Effects and just create a visually appearling music video. There are no deep statements being made in these videos. They don't make anyone think. They sure as hell make people argue like fuck though.
You make a good point, most AMV's are not very creative or artistic... but they can be. It may not be the most spiritual and deep artform but it is art nonetheless and has the power to move people.

And what's wrong with visually appealing? Not every artist is an snobby artiste. What about computer animation and 3d modling are you arguing that isn't art because it's on a computer?

Finally, who said art is some exclusive holier than thou club? Sure anyone can make an AMV. Anyone can paint a frikin picture or draw some extra crappy fanart. Anyone can play music. In short anyone can be an artist.

Calling a creative endevor that someone has worked on for months "not art" is not only untrue, it's downright rude and insulting.

Personally, I'd love to see my video played anywhere. I don't care who gets credit, and I don't care what sort of profits they reap. Hell, if they make money it means I made a good video. ;p I don't plan on making money from my ideas, and I don't intend on trying to be popular.

Some of us are trying to change that
Hell yeah. I like to think my last video makes people think. Of course, I like to think lots of things. :P

Dude, if I walked into my local GameStop and they were playing one of my AMVs, I'd just soil my pants on the spot. Twice.

Then I'd probably run out without taking credit before the customers could throw bad video games at me.

PS: I agree wholeheartedly with pen-pen.

Of course not. You can leave the money and popularity gains to your friends who will make retarded threads about your injuries and land you both.

On topic, I think it would be pretty cool to walk into a store and see my AMV playing on the screens. I don't think I'd really care about the dramatic details and symantics of it all. It's just not worth getting upset about.

Agree with Joykiller, I'd love it. IF I COULD GET ONE F-ING DONE!

Calm...

Okay - about Pen Pen's post. I am definitly on the same level with it. I haven't even made one good AMV and that post was insulting. And Pen Pen is completely right. Anyone can be an artist. Anyone could take some paint and throw it on a slab, call it art and move on in the day knowing that he/she is an artist by definition.

One of the definitions of art:

The conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.

Exactly how does AMVs not fall in that category? Where does it say anything about copyright laws? Art knows no law. As long as whatever you are doing is not exactly the same, and you have modified it, it should be considered your art. And no - I'm not saying that you can take the Mona Lisa and scratch a doodle on there with scented marker and say: "WahhooOOOo! My art makes you all suck to me!" I'm speaking in terms that uphold bounds. Try to be realistic here.

Although, with all that, I can understand that there are a TON of AMVs that took no skill whatsoever and should not be considered art. But I would still classify it as such.

Just shitty art.

That should be treated as such.
