But does anyone else find that sometimes they go and look up some creator with a big forum presence and then go...wow they haven't done anything really. Or wow, I didn't realize they made that.

More like... wow, I didn't realized Req was such an ASS, or wow, I didn't realize an ASS would bother making any decent videos.anneke wrote:But does anyone else find that sometimes they go and look up some creator with a big forum presence and then go...wow they haven't done anything really. There was one time I got confused with 2 creators with similar screen names and asked one of them at AX if he made a certain video and he said no.
It felt a bit awkward but the one who made the video had more of a forum presence but wasn't present at the time.

I usually get the "wow, they haven't done anything" scenario. Although it's not really a "wow" reaction so much as a "hmm" reaction. When you compare the number of members to the number of creators, there really isn't much room for surprise. I guess this is just mostly a spectator's sport. Although I'd have to say that the creators are more likely to be the ones in the forums anyway. They're kinda like the football team and the forum is the locker room. Everyone else is rushing for their car to get out ahead of the traffic. I don't know where I'm going with this.
I tend to recognize a name in the forums from what videos I've already seen done by that person, not the other way around. I generally don't check a person's AMV profile unless something's mentioned in a forum about one of their videos that's of interest to me. Or something else that sparks my morbid curiosity, like Requiett... I may rue the day I make that mouse-click, no offense.
Of course, that's a little bit contradictory because if a person hasn't made a video, and I haven't seen said unmade video, then I won't recognize them in the forums. Therefore, nothing of interest will be mentioned about a video they haven't made and I won't look up their profile to see that they have, indeed, made diddly-squat, thus bypassing the "wow" (aka "hmm" scenario). Ergo, I still don't know where I'm going with this, but I choose to believe that the paradox is complete and all is *insert adjective here* with the world. Not that I have any room to talk, though, becuase I have very little presence in either venue. Thank you, thank you.

Yup, though even in that sense I'm a pretty casual spectator.gangstaj8 wrote: I guess this is just mostly a spectator's sport.
(As in in, I don't watch all that much compared to some people.)
Most of the videos I have watched were made by people I'd known on the forums for a while or were recommended by someone who I knew didn't have crappy taste (and thus had also known them online for some time).

*whimper* unfortunateley, yes... WATCH MY DAMNED VIDEOS YA IDIOTS!! ~~ lol.anneke wrote:I've met alot of 'major' AMV creators, and then there are those creators who are 'big' on the forums. Some times I look at a name and want to remind myself what 'big' videos the person has made (and to remember if I met them or not), only to find out that despite a large forum presence, they don't have any videos I've heard of. Does anyone else find this happening?

thats still less than the videos Ive downloaded:
You have downloaded 3654
I think forum presence does help to "get your links out"
I know ive clicked my share of forum sig links when they look intersting...
but I dont think it has any bearing on "how good" of an editorer anyone here is... most of the improvements I've made came from Betas, opinions and friends who are willing to tell me the truth...
as I posted before... I'm suprised my crap gets as watched as it does... >< I have to blame most of that on insane fangirls/fanboys, Youtube, and teh awesomest pimping >< plus the popularity of a song and anime in combination with each other... ect.
but i dont think that being on the forum will motivate you in one way or another, this is just one small part of the site, theres plenty of other places to be active on this site... or not active at all..
