Why are so many people against using rap music in AMVs?

So I ran into my car and locked the door right away and began to search the tracks on my cd for DMX's "X is gonna give it to ya" and then after cursing out the lady in the car next to me, she walked up to my car and began blurting out crap but I couldn't hear it since I was waiting for the part in "X is gonna give it to ya" to come on. Then I rolled down my window and told her "Shut up Chris Tucker" then she said to me "Are you gonna let me starve? That's what Jesus would do!" So I unpaused the cd player and raised the volume then the entire parking lot heard "X IS GONNA GIVE IT TO YA! WHAT!" then she walked away to curse out the people at the nearby starbucks as I drove off.

I got Eminems new album today. Its one of thoughs albums where you realy have to read the lyrics and understand them to appreciate the music. Alot of rap is like this. Rap is about lyrics, the words are the whole point of the songs.

I don't think people are <i>opposed</i> to using rap so much as rap is really hard to work with. If I come up with a great idea for a hip-hop based AMV, I'll jump at the chance to edit it...

Probably beause, like the song, it's so hard to make them good. There is so many changing tempos and lyrics, and half of them tend not to have point to them. Songs need emo

Indeed. Eminem lyrics if you actually look at them are pretty amazing. My 10th grade english teacher teaches poetry through music and we had convinced him to teach Eminen. Unfortunately, the principal found out and the whole thing died out.

As far as rap being hard to work with, this is more true for the most popular rap (i still cant figure out why the popular rap is popular and the good rap isnt) than for other rap. The thing about using rap for an amv is that you have to do a lot of lyric sync because rap songs are all about the lyrics. This makes a concept difficult because you have to have a better match between music and anime than you would need for a less lyrically oriented song. I think that the biggest part of the problem is simply a lack of exposure to the less popular rap because its... well... less popular.

I like Eminem, and a few rap singers. But I wouldn't try to make an amv to them. My problem with rap songs is the repetitiveness of not just the beat, but the 'spoken' lyrics. Most are very similar to today's 'pop' singers, in that they don't actually sing the words, they say them in time to the beat. And aside from the occassional instrument chorus, the beat stays the same throughout.

I use songs for lyrics more often than not, so when the lyrics consist of the same pattern of 'words on the beat' the video gets very boring, very quickly. Sure, the lyric sync might be fun to do, but the words are spoken so quickly you have to be familiar with the anime to really catch a well-synced video. And that still doesn't change the repetitiveness of the 'beat'.

Not to say I haven't found songs that mix rap with actual singing - those I'd edit to.
