It's like a dictionary with one or two fake words to prevent people from claiming it for their own.

Back on topic:

...Or you could just make your own video. Few excelent videos are so LQ that they are significantly worse because of it and the ones that are are probably classics.

There are a few very positive stories in this thread but I would think carefully before I put energy into such an endevor.

My point about re-mastering someone else’s work is that there may be a lot of changes that you can't see (applications of effects, variable speeds, etc) that give the video it's unique characteristics

Personally I hate re-mastering even my own stuff since it's like repainting works of arts! Lean the art the way it is with all it's flaws!

Now, in terms of a re-make.... That's a different story.. There is one video I would like to re-make in my own version since the original is 10 years old and limited due to being a 2 VCR production... Now as our "art" technically has no legal backing, one does not have to ask the original creator, but I all for it if not as just a good gesture and show of respect if anything....

no, its not about legal backing. its a violation of amv.orgs rules. and yes...respect. So yeah, legally you can do it, duh...but it pretty much makes someone an ass on several levels, UNLESS they got the creators ok, and they are both having fun with it.

I plan to do this with one of Zerophite's old videos. I just have to PM him one of these days about asking him first.

I remastered/revised Wonka's classic during a period where I had very little interest in editing. It rejuvenated my mojo and let me experiment without hitting myself over the head with clip-selection. It's certainly a new interpretation of his vision, but has many of the same sequences.

I made it without prior consent (like he would ever deny me ;) ), but did send him a beta copy back in September. Probably only 6 people have ever seen it... I never really finished it though, and I dunno if I ever will... kinda got sick of it.

To throw my two cents in, I don't think there's anything technically wrong with remaking someone else's video without prior consent if you're clearly not trying to take credit for it. However, if you decide to make some changes to somehow "kick it up a notch", you run the risk of offending the original creator should they ever find out. They may have very good reasons for their edits and changing them because you feel they could've been better without consulting them is basically saying that you know better, which is always subject to individual interpretation.

So while you can remake someone's video and upload it to the local server, it can just as easily be removed. Get the original creator's blessing if you want to show the remade video through here.
My favorite video: Grilled Steak Trigun I LOVE THE COPS! Rargh!

If you need to remaster other people's videos, then you need more ideas.
