A lot of people have already posted thoughts similar to mine on this subject. However, I don't believe much of them are trying to make a career out of the arena of motion graphics and compositing as I am, and henceforth, I am royally pissed off.
Using AE is an option. I've never forced anyone to use the program and have only helped those who want to try it out and see how they like it. If they don't like it, they stop, as has been the case with many AMV'ers here. You're not being force-fed AE. Adobe isn't raping you.
Let's not forget to mention that there are people here who don't know how to make a perfect video and don't know what makes something good. What difference does it make? Are they entering Otakon? Good, you don't vote for them. No one makes a video for *you* unless they spell it out in the credits. You can publicly share that you're not comfortable with most AMVs becoming "AEffected," but you do NOT insinuate your own personal politics thinking it'll change anything.
Yeah I'm a dick, apparently, for mouthing off about scrapping basic video editing techniques and running off to Adobe to make the unreal apply, and I'm a post-production whore for using not just After Effects, but Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Freehand, Illusion, and any other program outside Premiere, Final Cut or two VCRs, but that is my choice and it is no one else's decision if I should stop that or not; I don't ever see myself quitting what I love doing and that is making AMVs in my free time. I make them for myself, for my friends, and for the general public to do what they will, but apparently I will never be making any videos for you.
Sata andagi!
