Hey, if it only took 6 steps to do it, and it was clearly documented, and when you finished each step you were not only taken to the next step, but documentation was once again provided for the specific step

I just think your analogy is wrong, no biggie. Change it to "If you can't start a car with it's key, back out of a parking space, and then drive in a lawful manner, then you shouldn't be able to drive"

I think instead of writing a guide that's a lot like the one AbsoluteDestiny and ErMaC wrote, why not make a guide about how to use other AMV programs? For example, perhaps a guide to Windows Movie Maker, VideoWave, or Vegas Video would be interesting. There are a lot of people who don't use Premiere you know.

Oh man... I would *pay* for a guide to using Windows Movie Maker, especially if it explained suitable codecs and video production errors. No guide on Premier is going to tell you how to find a codec that works properly in wmm, especially now that the bug-ridden 2.0 version is out. >.< A guide on Showbiz would help, too, but there are more people using wmm than that one, so I won't gripe.

It's not just adobe, and im thinking about just getting rid of the adobe guide and leaving the others.

This would be absolutely awesome! For those that don't know what Wiki is, it is a collabrative website that allows anyone, anywhere to update a page instantly...

Maybe Phade would go for a "AMV FAQ - Wiki Style" or something...

Arigatomyna: If you need help with Windows Movie Maker let me know! I've helped quite a few people out with codecs and stuff ^^ I haven't heard of Showbiz but I'm sure someone can help you out.

I don't use the guides as I believe they're written in sandscript but don't they cover DVD2AVI?

Anyways, a dumb n00b isn't just one who "does it cause they can". What you are doing is learning from mistakes. Not forgetting them. The best n00bs know where they fucked up and they care about the mistake. They will find work arounds. And thus, n00bs get better. From the current trend I'm seeing, I see n00bs getting better faster than before... this is good

Well, as far as the effects guide goes, I guess it would be bad to show specifics on how to do effects, but rather set them in the right direction and let THEM figure out the rest and how they want to apply it. It's like all these turorials online for Photoshop and A.E., a lot of stuff you didn't think you could do until you saw them, pepople learn from it and apply it differently when they want to use it. An effects guide isn't a bad idea at all.

I think I read through the entire A&E guide three times before I understood some chunks of it. And I still read through the compression guide every time I export (a grand total of 4 times for my only vid, yeah I know I suck, my computer kept lagging during previewing).

I know it is kinda difficult for the total beginner to understand but it is possible and the guide do explain things in detail. I still don't understand some of the scripting in AVS/Virtual Dub. I'd love to be able to write my own filters etc... but that's beyond me.

As for effects sets that does sound interesting and I for one would like to know more about it. Does it work like the actions in photoshop? Or do you basically have to write a code for the effect you'd like? Or are you just talking about combining existing effects in interesting ways?

If it's the last there is really little need for guides on the subject just let people experiment for themselves but if it's something else entirely maybe a guide would be useful if only to tell someone how to go about doing it.
