Orwell on editing wrote:Who has never killed an hour? Not casually or without thought, but carefully: a premeditated murder of minutes. The violence comes from a combination of giving up, not caring, and a resignation that getting past it is all you can hope to accomplish. So you kill the hour. You do not work, you do not read, you do not daydream. If you sleep it is not because you need to sleep. And when at last it is over, there is no evidence: no weapon, no blood, and no body. The only clue might be the shadows beneath your eyes or a terribly thin line near the corner of your mouth indicating something has been suffered, that in the privacy of your life you have lost something and the loss is too empty to share.
Are amvs fun??

Popular for a very short time, then. ;pScintilla wrote:Putting H.264 in AVI has never been "correct".
I don't even remember what the format was except that a lot of people were using it suddenly, talking about how it was going to replace xvid because of the high quality (and ridiculously bloated resolutions), no one could play it back properly, and it had "avi" as the extension. I got tricked a lot for a while there - I'd download thinking "It's avi, oh, xvid, that's fine!" and then my computer would lock up the second I touched the file.

"Correct" isn't about what you choose to use as a compression format, it's about making your product look nice and take up an amount of space that's appropriate to the video length - showing that you put some effort into the thing.

I'd say that story-telling and song/anime choice are more important, but meh. Without substance, all the amv is is a shiny encode. It's like dessert without dinner. They're both "correct" and important, but not mutually exclusive. I'd rather watch an AMV with a well thought out story and basic editing with a little pixelation than a beautifully compressed effect-crazy smorgasborg with no substance to it at all.BasharOfTheAges wrote:"Correct" isn't about what you choose to use as a compression format, it's about making your product look nice and take up an amount of space that's appropriate to the video length - showing that you put some effort into the thing.
So yes, for me, AMVs are still fun. I love to tell stories, but even more, my goal with AMVs is to make people FEEL something. There's nothing better than seeing people crying or laughing because of something you've made. THAT's what makes it fun for me - watching people in the audience with tears in their eyes, or laughing so hard they fall out of their seats.
