I'm a person with roots in music theory and a musical backround. That is what brought me with an interest in making AMVs. I'm first and foremost a song writer, so I have in ingrained in me to repeat certain melodic structures like a chorus for example.
I think this is spilling over into my video I'm making now as I am being tempted to re-use a certain scene during the choruse to colaborate with the beat and the guitar rythem. If I were to do this for the chorus of "Break Stuff" by Limp Bizkit, do you think it could work and not ruin the video? I'd be matching it up to the "Duh, duhun... Duh, duhn" guitar part that plays during the "he said she said" portion of the chorus. Stomping was one of the ideas for the repeated scene.
What do you think?
I think it could, it largely depends on the specific footage you're using. It has to be something that's either sufficiently striking visually, or really symbolic, I think. With things like chorus repetition - I would say variations on visual themes rather than straight repetition generally works better. If you're using, say, a clip of stomping - well, use different clips of stomping for each time. Closely related, but not the same.
Good to see people getting into AMVs via music (I've got no background in music theory at all, but I'm still one of those who are more on the music side of things).
