I don't care how good you get (as hard as that may be to believe for people). I think half the fun of even making amv's is knowing that you can always get better. I'm only speaking for myself w/ this next statement but I have to admit. If I ever felt like I "mastered" my editting style, it'd be kind of a buzzkill.
That's completely valid. If you want, though, post what you think is the most developed (not necessarily the "mastered") example of your work in any style you choose to define as your own.

I have no definitive style, as I realised from reviewing my videos from this year. Editors can fall into a style i suppose, but as with all sets of data, sooner or later there'll be an outlier, so no matter how set an editor is in his/her style, they're gonna have videos that contradict that style.

my style is probably that I don't realy have a particular style. I edit mainly on instinct. Whatever comes to mind and whatever feels right at the time is what I do. I rarely plan out anything besides just the basic concept/ story outline of the video before editing. The proof is that most of my videos are very different from each other. I also like to use effects in a way to create footage that wasn't originally there, not too look like effects, if that counts as a style. I've done this since day 1, so probably evident in my first video.

I don't think I will ever find or settle with one definitive style, I always like to try new things. The hobby will get boring for me if I stick to only 1 style, or run out of new things to try, since thats most of the fun I get out of editing.

The term "master" should not play into any part of this discussion.

my most developed?
That'd be my most recent one.

People either like it or hate it, but if you watch this and compare it to any and all of my previous amv's, you'll see that it's more or less in a league of it's own. It's a perfect example of what I mean when I say my style is constantly changing as I improve.

And as good as I felt my most recent amv was (compared to my other works), I'm hoping the next one I'm working on will turn out to be THAT much better since I'm putting forth even more time and effort into making it.

As of late, I've been trying to push myself to do bigger and better things with my amv's. There's still so much left to do, and even more to learn that I don't ever feel I'll be mastering anything. About the only aspect of amv making one could possibly "master" are the encoding/compression methods utilized for distribution. And even that can be argued over.

I actually agree with requiett's previous post 100%. I just didn't have the guts to posts something like that myself.
My next biggest project to come...

I'm realizing more and more that that wasn't the proper word I should've used. Even so, I think people are doing what they may with the concept of this thread .

I don't have a style, I just make vids like ones I want to see.

That's it basically.

If you want to stick a label on anything I do, it'd likely be "Psychedelic." I have to capitalize that, so I can be a pretentious bastard. The video I think that defined that style for me was the one everyone just called my "Eva / Paint it Black" vid, even though it was called Image Diabolique. No one calls it that, which is proof that everyone ignores pretention. Also, I didn't have the title in the vid, because when I started making music videos, I was conforming to the regular credits on the bottom of the screen like MTV does to save time and leave out creative credentials.

Though one would think that the Eva vid were inspired from hallucinogens, I didn't actually try them until over a year later. The ideal expression of my experiences with those substances is realized in my vid "The Cosmic Giggle" in which I tried to visually emulate the textures and transitions of salvia divinorum's effects.

I have a stigma against writing long shit, and I fear I've exceeded that limit as it were.
