Code: Select all

Personally I wouldn't really care for the following chain of events:

1. The person is doing it to gain recognition

     a. while they *might* be able to lie to their family and close friends
making videos in this manner makes it 100% impossible to ever
        gain any REAL recognition.

     b. if what they're copying is a REALLY GOOD video, it is impossible
NOT for someone to notice and say something. If the video being
copied is only average, then really, it doesn't matter because
neither party can gain true recognition off mediocre work.

     c. the greater the video and the more popular it becomes the chance
of the fraud being discovered increases exponentially.

     d. once identified as a fraud it is highly doubtful that anyone
will ever respect them as an artist ever again, even if they do
manage to actually improve their own skill.

     e. being exposed as a fraud in this manner is the same as a double
edged sword. It's done as a tool to seek recognition and praise,
but the greater ammount of that which is obtained the greater the
chance of the sword swinging back and slicing off the frauds own
head, essentially recieving the exact opposite of praise and
        recognition...ridicule, pain, abandonment, hatetred, etc.

     f. in the end the only people who might buy into the lie are people
not familiar with this community, the frauds family and close
friends. However it's unlikely that even they would believe it as
the individual probably has a history of lying about their
abilities and even if they did buy into it, it really doesn't
matter, because mommy and daddys opinion about the art of
making AMVs really doesn't count for squat in the real world.

2. The person is doing it to try and attack you

     a. they're not seeking any sort of true recognition or praise for
their efforts, the act is done solely to get you upset. If you
get upset and make a big deal out of it, they get what they
         want.

     b. if you follow the eventual outcome as discussed above they will be
proven a fraud by other people and as long as you don't get too
directly involved all their efforts wind up smashing right back in
their face. Just remember, don't get angry, just poke fun at them
for doing it, it'll turn the tables right around on them REAL quick
if you start pointing your finger and laughing at them with the
rest of the class rather than stom up and down screaming for
the teacher to come and wipe your ass for you.

It takes days to rip a full series from DVD, and then the scene selecting, editing, effects, timing...its HARD to make, and you put yourself into it.
I totally agree. It sucks. I've emailed the admins, you should do the same. Dunno what that will do. Oh well!

That's such a mildly-irritating way of posting messages

Well, really, it is all just easy ways of 'me-too', they would have to be very naive to think they'd get anywhere with those videos.

Granted, I still don't think this should be tolerated as a common practice. It's bad for the community's collective sense of morality, or something... :?
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Praise god someone feels the same way I do. The exact same way (and no, I'm not accusing you of stealing my ideas, and in fact you phrased it much better. That and you added some. Perhaps I should steal your ideas...).

I wouldn't give 2 craps if he or anyone else took my amv footage stuff. It'll only take 5 seconds or less for someone to ask, "hey how'd ya do that?"

And then their peabrains would end up in the shitter...

:D

I may not be good at editing, but I damn well know an effect I used in my own vid when I see it.

Copying fx takes effort, I respect that. Copying direct footage, well, again, brain in shitter...

There seriously has to be more severe reprocussions for breaking these kinds of a-m-v.org rules. As in temporary to permanant banning.
people seem to like stealing your footage :P

I had it happen to me a while back, so since then I have a sore spot on the subject. I ignore videos that take certain scenes from my vids (I have at least one scene that everyone and his brother loves to use - so they take it from me rather than buying the special). I get to the point where I smirk and tell them to get it from my newer video so the quality won't be so bad. ;p

But taking more than a 'raw' clip gets excessive. Don't stop complaining just because people don't care - just don't expect many to sympathize with you. I still report vids that take entire videos from me - at least the ones hosting them on the local server.

It's one thing when they're just hurting themselves (as skeptics claim), but when they're taking up space that could have gone to legitimate videos, that should be a problem for the community as a whole. Watch how quick we jump on non-anime vids that get tossed on local. You can't say we don't care about keeping the server reserved for 'legitimate' amvs.

Yes, don't stop complaining if you have a legitimate concern and I think plagiarism is definitely a legitimate concern. Obviously different people care in varying amounts about their work, but why should other people be able to claim credit for work you've done?

If someone takes a substantial amount of material from your video(s), they should at the very least credit you as the source, especially in this day and age of digital editing and compositing where edited material may be drastically altered from the original source. Well, what if they just recreated those same effects with the same footage, you say? Sure, it's possible, but highly unlikely. A lazy person would most likely just steal the clip and a creative person would use the effect in a different way. That narrows down the possible suspects to be uncreative, but hard-working people, something that most people would not describe themselves as.

But anyways, plagiarism is frowned upon by the administration and I hope that people will continue to report any plagiarized videos stored locally so we can remove them. That being said, I hesitate on banning plagiarizers because I wish that they would see the error of their ways and someday create videos which relied upon their own creativity and video-editing skills as opposed to someone else's.
