Hmm.. I like my ops, well... I don't really care about ops since I've survived on so little of them from the time I started.

I guess the ops I want are telling me whether they liked it or not, and what I did wrong in the technical(I'm struggling with that technical stuff! ><)
Ops detailing hoe horrifying the compression in a video is and how I can fix it next time would be helpful, too. As far as the numbers go, I really only look at effort. It may seem kinda assy of me, but I always expect a 9-10 in effort unless I specifically said something about not putting effort into the video.

Oh, and originality. Those are the only two numbers I really care about: Originality and effort.

On the flip side, I really like KLin's ops, as well as gypsy's.
Right now, this is my favorite opinion.
When I do somethign overdone(such as that: a linkin park song) I like it when people tell me how my video was different from others of the same kind. Also, how gypsy broke up her scores was really awesome.

I've seen some of MJ's ops and others that are that lengthy... And those are the kind of ops that, to me, should be said when you're a beta tester. After the video is done and for distro, telling people every single flaw at every single second doesn't really help them unless they take them into consideration for redoing the whole vid. :?

I don't only timestamp flaws, I timestamp things I enjoyed about the video as well. I feel it gives the creator more specific examples of what I felt worked and what could be improved in future vids.

I do the same as MJ, and many creators have said that it was useful. We aren't so much criticizing this video as we are criticizing any future videos that might repeat similar flaws. :?

I'm not saying it's not useful, I'm just saying that...

... Forget it, I don't know what I was saying. =\

I consider most of them to be sorta worthless. I find that there are generally two types of people who make opinions, those who nitpick about every stupid thing under the sun to the point where what they're saying doesn't make any sense at all (usually because they didn't bother to read the videos description before making their opinion). And then you have the people who are easily impressed and just think, "Wow, that's cool!"

In regards to myself I have three categories of people, those who hate me and give me all 1s just to spite me. Those who are easily impressed and give all 10s without even firing up a single neuron. And last there are those who give fairly decent reviews but are like deathly afraid to give all 9s and 10s on a video.

Personally, to me, there are only two categories, either you've made the current best in class, or you haven't. I used to be one of those people who downloaded tons and tons of AMVs, but now, not so much. Like I used to have around 6 Outlaw Star AMVs, they were all okay, I thought they were pretty good. But then I made "Twist Of" and now when I go back and look at the old ones in my collection I just think, "Man, these are just shit compared to mine". And trust me, it's not just an ego thing. It's like I made a Hellsing AMV, and yeah it was decent, but Eternal Damnation is definitely top of the class and it'd be VERY hard to ever out do it. It's like each anime/music genre combination has it's own niche, and once that niche has been bested, it's likely not gonna be out done (at least not from what I've seen). That's why, I think that when you make an AMV it is 100% important to try and keep it as original as possible unless you're absolutely sure that what you're doing can out class all others in it's genre.

And you know something? Star ratings, opinions, etc, etc, all that is nothing more than a load of shit. I've seen the absolute height of crap average 4+ stars with over 10 opinions while stuff that's REALLY good trails back into the 2s and 3s. It's not a matter of subjectivity either, yes a certain theme can touch you, it can me you think more favorably of a video, but if it's not technically superior, it can EASILY be out done and you'll likely enjoy the retake on it far better.

Further, to me there are three main levels of editing classes.

1. Random Cuts, where random video, even if it fits the theme is just slapped in with music, but there's no cohesion or symmetry with the body of the music (lyrics, beat, melody, etc).

2. Flash Bang, where flashes and scene skips are used to forcibly match the animation into the cohesion of the music. A good example is Euphoria.

3. Animated Music, where the animation itself blends into the music, sometimes so seamlessly it's hard to even recognize it's happening. A good example would be my AMV Twist Of. Most people don't even recognize that nearly every explosion, firing of a missile, ship movement, etc is all synchronized into the beat of the music.

I consider the 3rd editing class to be the best. When you can make an AMV that does that, it'll completely change your perspective on everything you've ever seen before. There aren't many examples and a lot of times they get overlooked by people who can't get past Flash Bang effects, but the ones that do exist...simply amazing. One of the best examples, which uses flash bang effects and animated music is the Angelic Layer AMV "Breakdance". If you're not watching really close it's almost lost on you, but nearly all the animation sequences match up with beats of the music.

For those that are interested, here's the link to the Angelic Layer video I mentioned:

Horribly underated I might add.

Here's also a link to my video Twist Of:

Another really good example of what I talked about would be Tiny Tike Smackdown: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... php?v=4394
