Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
I donno one of my ICs (not an official contest, mind you) I actually came up with a concept on the spot O.O Of course in that particular case "random pretty scenes" beat out my concept anyway O:BasharOfTheAges wrote:To be fair, you kinda BS your way through things like ICs and hope nobody notices.JaddziaDax wrote:I disagree, because you can come up with a concept while editing, thus many IC videos were born.Nya-chan Production wrote:The only absence of concept is when you don't define it beforehand. I always get my concept ready within the 20 minutes of song listening ^^;;;JaddziaDax wrote:I disagree, because you can come up with a concept while editing, thus many IC videos were born.Nya-chan Production wrote:The only absence of concept is when you don't define it beforehand. Re: AMV flaws you want to admit
In my earlier post I was trying to point out that the question whether an AMV has a concept or not is not really relevant. But, if I should play along with your analogy, I would say why should I care whether the 3-year-old's drawings are art or not. It's merely a question of definition, which doesn't really concern any substantial matters. If I like the drawing, then I like the drawing, and whether it's art or not shouldn't really make a difference. Although, I once read about a child painter (about 5 years old or something) whose paintings were extremely expensive but when it turned out that her father had been giving her instructions all the time the price of the paintings dropped significantly. Such information ruined the "authenticity" (whatever that's supposed to mean) of these works. In other words that "it" what these paintings had in the minds of the public disappeared, even though the paintings were technically exactly the same as before. In the same way when we're talking about concepts we're not really talking about the AMVs themselves but that extra surplus value that we invest in them when we edit or that we look for when we watch AMVs. It's all very vague and subjective but I have no problems with that. It's just good to take this into account if you're gonna say something about concepts.BasharOfTheAges wrote:Alternatively, because we all like analogies, what would you consider a 3 year old with a crayon is doing?

Back to actual flaws.
1) I am incapable of using straight to black fades. They REALLY bother me.
2) Every time I try to beat sync, I end up having a small conniption fit that it's not any good and go back to lyric/mood sync.

Read my post again. slowly. You missed the entire point of it. Like, the sentences following it, for instance.Emong wrote:In my earlier post I was trying to point out that the question whether an AMV has a concept or not is not really relevant. You're also completely off base with the art comparison - "concept" doesn't equate to "meaning" or any such nebulous thing. It's knowing what the fuck you're doing or having a clear goal vs slapping clips disjointedly on a timeline hurp-derping it up. that's it. period. full stop.

Sometimes limiting you're thinking can broaden you're creativity.
On Topic
1) Sometimes try too hard on story concepts and thus cut around things that would fit a beat sync or other types of basic amv tricks because it would ruin the continuity of the story I am creating. Its almost like putting myself in a very tine box.
2) I like hard cuts tooooooo much.

Looking back, I'd say that before making AMV's... I didn't really know how to use a computer.

- I don't do ANYTHING the right way. Each step I take I can show you a posting by the more knowing people saying just how wrong it is.
- My certificates and trophies at work are there to convince me that I'm more than a sack of crap. Doesn't work and I'm not fooling anyone else either.
- I am NEVER happy with how my videos look. I improve the image quality, but I know if I keep fooling with it I'll just make it worse. And then I'll 'just tweak this one bit here....'
- I like to use old songs because most of the younger crowd will have never heard them. Of course the REAL reason is not knowing a thing about current music.

I didn't miss anything about your post. I was just trying to think outside your frame of thought as I define concepts differentlyBasharOfTheAges wrote:Read my post again. slowly. You missed the entire point of it. Like, the sentences following it, for instance.
