I'm truthful with my stars. If it sucks, it sucks, if its great its great. I've never given out a 5 star rating. lol But my little stars doesn't answer for the millions of them out there in which a good 80% of them are just lazy bums who want to download a new AMV since their amv unstarred queue is filled.

I try to be honest, but it's too vague a system to really carry any merit. Often, the stars I give will vary depending on what I've been downloading. If I watch two videos (A and B), and vid A really blows, it'll get a low star rating, and B, a rather mediocre vid, will get a good rating. However, throw C into the mix, which happens to be an awsome video, and suddenly vid B isn't as good compared to C. Vid B gets a lower score and C scores high.

I usually hate doing those 1 to 10 scales too, but atleast with a detailed opinion, I can put meaning behind those numbers.

Once, when i was new here and had downloaded only a very few videos, I went through my star ratings and changed some of them according to the newer vids I had seen. Some of them changed quite drastically because what I had previously thought to be pretty good was now utterly shamed by something that was totally awesome. And, once again, I don't know where I'm going with this. I think it's time I pick up the banjo and learn that one Steve Martin sketch, (which would get 5 stars, incidentally).

I agree, most of it . While it seems to serve a good point in weeding out the shitty AMVs from the good ones, it can be misleading... mainly because someone thought it was good because of the source and not the editing aspect.

well for every 5 you get a bitter and jealous 1 and that makes an average of 3.

Also my favorite video was made to MOCK it's targeted audience -_- I don't know how that came around, only a trueley INSANE and IMPOSSIBLE artist could come up with that  -ego trip-.

Anyway it gets a 2.4 rateing whereas my other vids are 3.0-3.8, though that just shows it pisses off it's intended audience, not that it's bad.

I personally grade an amv (star wise) on how much i liked it...
but editing, quality and talent do come into play with that... cause if you have a great concept but execute it poorly then i cant enjoy it.... but thats my personal choice...
I also treat stars as how much I like it, but I leave the technical (editing, quality, etc.) stuff to the op... so I may op something with a 7 or less average yet give it 4 stars (not often, but it has happened), or, as is more often the case, op it with a 9 average and give it two stars.... I swear, some of the better amv artists must be ROBOTS.

I give a 3 to vids that seem to be average of the vids on the site. Vids get a 2 if they have clips that match the theme but there doesn't seem to be much editing involved. I rarely give out 1s, when I do it's because there's absolutely no editing, crappy footage selection and horrible video quality.

I give 4s out to vids who seem to have some real effort put into them. Pretty much any vid I would keep on my HD gets a 4.

5s are rare for me to give out and are reserved for vids that simply blow me away.

Hope that helps. :)

i really don't think my videos have been seen by enough people, to get the ratings that they do. i do believe not many really gave them a true rating.

I have a simplistic rating system, based on enjoyability:

A horrible vid, or an otherwise okay vid that has something that killed it, gets a 1.

An otherwise "Is this over yet?" vid will get a 2.

A vid that I have to watch over and over again, that I won't get tired of no matter how much I watch it, gets a 5.

An otherwise keepworthy vid gets a 4.

Everything else gets a 3.
Am I supposed to just walk up to someone and say 'Hello. My name's Kirika. I kill people in my spare time'?

I think the star rating leave something to be desired. While it may be loosely accurate, I think the real opinion rating system is much more accurate since you can rate on several different level. Another inconsistency with the star rating is that everyone thinks that a 3 star rating is merely average. However, half of five is 2.5. So if your vid is getting a 3.5 star rating that pretty good and is above average, 3 is still above average but it's still dependant on the viewers point of view. Between 4-5 star rating seem to be reserved for the best out there, and cheaters of course ;).

My point, I try not to put to much stock in the star ratings, if I like my videos, and few others really like them, then I'm happy. I'm not in it for popularity.
