Actually, I definately watch AMVs alone (because none of my friends know that I even like anime muchless AMVs ^^;; ) except for when I force my sister to watch mine for critique. And then I just sit there the whole time scolding her for the fact that she's not paying attention or explaining how and effect was made, etc.
yeah i do that... well with my brother, the second part. he never pays attention either. i generally watch them right when i download them, and then if i have nothing to do, i watch one once in a while. if i invite some friends who actually like anime over, which is rare, cause almost none such friends exist, then i watch random vids with them. otherwise i sometimes force friends who don't like anime to see some vid, but that doesn't usually work out too well.. lol
but i like watching them alone at 2 am, staring at the screen and thinking how cool the effects are - if there are any, that is

All other videos, I them watch by myself. Occasionally, I create VCD compliations and play them on my parents' computer with the big speakers; I'm still perfecting how to create a DVD compliation since my first one has a lot of the videos "jittering". :x
Nowadays amv creators are making dvds of their work which is far superior to the old amv cds that nobody would watch after a con :P

If it is just casual watching, I usually have them playing in the background on winamp (smallest resolution) while I am doing other things online. If I am doing a review or beta testing for someone, I will watch it full screen.

Whether I use speakers or headphones depends on the time of day, presence of others in the house, and the phase of the moon (I kid! I kid!).

I usually play them on my second monitor, sometimes absentmindedly, sometimes not. Sometimes picking ones to match my mood, but random play of my collection is more common.

I'm generally alone, often at 2-3 in the morning, and it's usually normal size (I may put it on fullscreen on a whim, but it's not a consistent thing). I'll usually pull my sister in to watch the better ones during the day, though.

I actually burn VCDs of practically every video I download, once it gets to that 80 minute mark, so just in case I want to watch it again, I can pop it into our DVD player and watch them on a 27" screen. This isn't as often as it used to be, though, since other family members are usually hogging the TV/Digital Cable.

I watch AMVs in Media Player Classic at their original resolution and the volume usually 7/8 full. I use Sony MDR G57 headphones to listen. I can't stand speakers, since I'm the kind of person that doesn't like people intruding on his musical experience.

every saturday during the school year, i show an hours worth of amvs to a small group in a student lounge or small auditorium. pretty sweet setup - projector and sound system in the auditorium/large screen tv in the lounge - although the audience is small.

other than that, it's on my own. i'm most likely to watch when i hear the song used in an amv on the radio or in my playlist and it reminds me of the amv a lot, when i'm working on an amv and i need editing ideas to steal, when i'm eating a meal/large snack in my room, or during tuesday maintenance.

full screen, sometimes just double-sized, in wmp or media player classic. rarely more than 30 minutes at a time. i usually prefer speakers over headphones. volume depends on my mood. long day at school/work = loud music.

I watch AMV's by theme.

I have a tiny harddrive on my laptop (which is my main computer at school) so I only keep around seventy videos on a consistant basis. But these each have a powerful impact. So if I've got a lot of energy I might throw on some Tsukin, but then I'm even more hyped, so I'll also watch some Beowulf, Wonka, Tyler-yj, Requiett, etc. So I binge for awhile (usually untill I can't procrastinate doing my HW any more) and then tear myself away.

Or I might want something really chill and I'll pull out the Nightowl, Otohiko, Jasper-Isis, and Vlad Pohnert (etc.) videos. I also have a set of comedy videos, a set of horror videos, and so on.

I always watch full screen but rarely blast the music.

by myself and with headphones - for me, headphones will reveal a lot of 'sins' that the speakers can miss (such as 'bleeps' from editing MP3 files in unfriendly programs, or clipping of the high points in songs). I usually will watch a vid once, and if its good, I share them with folks at work.

If I am reviewing them, I watch it at the original resolution and at least 3 times to find as much useful comments that I can.

but I have been known to pump up the volume on the side speakers and rock on by myself when the significant other is away...
