Choosing which scenes to use

I used to choose scenes by using the DVD, back when I had RAM issues that made scrubbing through footage in Premiere nearly impossible. Nowadays, with the new computer, I just browse through the footage straight from Premiere's timeline.

I use premiere to choose images, and before that, if I have time to spend, I watch the episode writing down the images suitable for the amv in my mind...

I call it the "P+P system" aka... Paper + Pen system.

When I used the capture card, I would just plan ahead of time, search for the scenes (harder on VHS), and capture them.

Now that I am using Virtual Dub and a decrypter, I am just searching through whatever gets captured. This is a first. Hopefully it will succeed.

ditto...though usually I know the anime well enough to pretty much know where what I want to use is at and just snag those VOBs and go from there

Well, I was just being a cynical bastard...that's all. I worked with AVS on my previous comp (566MHZ) and yeah, it was like, slow as hell editing.

If I'm feeling up to it, I use VDub to hop around keyframes and take note of the times to use in Premiere.

What I usually do, though, is just scroll through that preview thing and highlight. I usually takes a lot longer, but I'm just so lazy.

Some may call it random, but I guess you say I go on instinct, and I try and have a good clear thought or at least a hint of what the center idea is of the vid I'm making, that way I know how to go about chosing the next scene after the other and so on... hope that helps some..

For me to scan scenes, though my comp has more than the adequate hardware to do the "basic" editing jobs, I still get crashes in premiere, go fig!

So what I do is scan for the scenes I want using Windows Media Player Classic. Low mem usage, nice and fast, etc.

I just remember the time and then hunt for it in the premiere blocks of footage.
