The whole 'studios'/'productions' thing is often a funky coverup for a one-man (or -woman) outfit. There's probably far more single-person studios here than multi-person ones.

I basically support what Otohiko said.

My range of effects basically consists of abusing the greyscale and invert filters until they cry.[/b]

Unfortunately, not everyone feels the way this thread seems to indicate. I've only given out 17 opinions, but some others that I have read have declared videos to be lacking in effects. In fact, my brother's video* (which I haven't opped, and not because of bias) recieved an opinion that said exactly that.

*Linked to both demonstrate the simplicity and to whore it out. I thought it wasn't too bad.

Of course a good video needs effects. In fact the ultimate AMV wouldn't have any animation at all, just a screen cap and 2 minutes of digital manipulation.

There are so many ways I could argue this I'm not even going to start. But I will say this:

What is arguably the most well know AMV of all time? Most would say Kevin Cadwell's "Engel". It uses how many effects...?

A video is a video.

As long as it is enjoyable, it is right to do- with or without effects.

Yes, in fact, I'd say a video can b e great without those too if the timing is just THAT good.
x0chiaki0x wrote:Or does it have to have an effect to make it great?
No.

Anywho's, speed changes, cross dissolves, and fades are the things I've used, primarily speed changes. Oh, and I adjusted the brightness slightly on one part of a clip. Not that my videos are considered great by everyone, but I thought I'd share anyway.

My opinion on effects. alot of people and i include AD vic and every other "professional". AE is a tool, as such people have various level of skill with it. I'm not really that impressed with any of the effects videos. And yes i include Euphoria in this (let the biased flames begin).

I really think that the best use of effects are the ones people don't notice. Effects are supposed to inhance a video not be the video.
This has no relevence to the discussion above it

That isn't to say I don't like effects in videos, also. I've seen equally remarkable video both with effects galore and no 'effects' at all. I think it's a matter of how you use what you have, rather than what it is you use.

Since, ultimately, there is only one effect: the effect of a video on a viewer. How you achieve that is entirely subjective
