You are only in competition against yourself. You must move forward, higher, keep climbing. If you fail to surpass yourself, you're going backwards and should have cut out sooner. If you get too high, cut out before you fall back to earth. No one wants to see their stars fall.

Look at it this way, you have to be pretty good for people to put you on a pedastool. And they put you there because you did something they liked. You stay there or fall depending on their reactions - how well you continue to please by being greater with each gift you give them. It's flattery in a way, just don't take it to heart. People expect their greats to keep rising forever, and if they think that great is falling, they loose faith and cry about it. Can't be helped.

You either move according to them, feeding off them till they start skimping on the treats and you starve to death, or you accept the praise and expectations as opinionated feedback and continue to thrive off your own satisfaction regardless of what anyone else thinks. As long as you're not making money off of it, you have no obligation to anyone.

A reply to emails like that - "Sorry you didn't like it, but I think it does just what I set out to do, so I'm happy."

Actually I liked images. But it was kinda like a movie like Titanic... It was good the first time, but I'd probably never watch it again. (ok images wasn;t as bad as titanic with that, I might still watch it again once a blue moon) but my point is it was different and really portrayed the series through mostly still "images" well, sorta like a documentory, even though it may only be a "play one time" enjoyment. I liked how you did it. definately original. And i'm not the only one that feels that way.

(I hope I don't start some kinda debate on Titanic....)

Uhm...I'm not in competition with anybody, even myself. I just make videos I wanna make and sometimes I dig them and think they turned out well and sometimes not.

I guess I'm going backwards then even though I'm having fun? :? By saying you're competing with yourself, you're kind of setting expectations for yourself...I guess that's not as bad as someone else doing the same, but it can also lead to disappointment. Just do what you want, sometimes it won't work out and sometimes it will. It doesn't mean I "go backwards" or anything, even "bad videos" are a learning experience.
