For the last fucking time there is no fucking yuri in Utena, movie or series. There is shoujo-ai, which is not the same thing. In the movie they kiss, ONCE, fanboys, and in the series everything is implied.
As for crossovers, only a few niche AMVers make shounen-ai vids in the first place, so crossover AND shounen-ai is asking for a lot. Crossover YAOI, on the other hand, good god. The work involved in grafting two entirely different sex scenes into one makes my head hurt just thinking about it.
(Oh, let me guess. You don't know what yaoi is. It's hardcore. Always. Anything else is shounen-ai, dumbass.)

Well, the phrase 'implied yaoi' means you don't actually see it. It's *implied* but you don't see the actual hardcore scenes. You can have a shonen ai video with implied yaoi - all that means is you see the romance and the physical aspect is 'implied' but not shown.
I don't see any problem or misnomer there. If she hadn't said 'implied' then technically it might be off - though people still lump any physical romance into yaoi since shonen ai can be romance without any physical inclination - similar to father/son, mother/daughter - same sex love but nothing physical at all so it isn't the same as 'yaoi' or 'yuri' - just shonen and shoujo ai - male and female love.
If you want to be technical, then every single dbz vid featuring a father and son is shonen ai. Now how would that make the squicked fanboys react? As someone who only does shonen ai when there is at *least* implied yaoi (meaning physical inclinations) - I see no problem using the big scary 'yaoi' word to warn off squickable people. After all, the yaoi itself may not be explicite, but so long as there is a physical aspect (even if it's only implied - not seen) - it isn't just love. Shonen ai does not cover two males who love each other and also lust for each other. You have to either name both shonen ai *and* yaoi, or speak of yaoi with a shonen ai subtext.
Gets pretty messy.
As for yuri in Utena - the subtitles on the fansubs I watched years ago were probably wrong or something. I could have sworn there was physical attraction between females as *well* as love (shoujo ai). It was probably the movie, though - seeing two girls who love each other lying naked together tends to make me think there is a physical aspect to that love (meaning yuri with a shoujo ai subtext - or shoujo ai with implied yuri). You can't just have shoujo ai if the two females have any sort of physical attraction between them - because that goes past the definition of 'love between girls' and into the 'physical love between girls'.
Blegh.
Look at it this way - most of the squickable people have no idea what shonen ai is, but use the word yaoi and they know it's something they hate. Both a blessing and a curse, but better to label lust as lust than to pretend it's the same platonic love a little girl may have for her sister (girl/girl love = shoujo ai).

Heh, I look at it this way -
Most hentai anime features yuri (as in explicite sex between two or more females - usually without any shoujo ai) and most hentai anime is made by men. Why? Because the majority (at present) of men are attracted to females and like to see females more than other men when it comes to romances or sexual entertainment.
I find it 'right' that the same is true for the other side of the coin. Only we women are luckier. Not only do we get the yaoi (the opposite of the explicite yuri in most hentai anime), but we also get soft romance without the yaoi for those who don't need to see all the details. We're luckier. And those of us who don't mind seeing female romances can watch the very very few shoujo ai (non explicite yuri) romances since there are a few female animators making those as well as the shonen ai anime.
Reasons for this? Maybe the male animators are so focused on the sex itself that they forgo the romance in yuri animation (mostly hentai animation). Which means females not only have the majority of yaoi and shonen ai anime, but the rare shoujo ai anime as well.
Keep in mind that it isn't porn we're talking about here. There are *very* few hardcore yaoi anime. In fact, I know of 4 total that are available on fansub - no others. And there are no hentai anime whch include even the shortest scene of yaoi. But almost every long hentai anime includes at least one explicite yuri scene. Why? Because females make the yaoi anime - and most of them focus more on the romance than the sex - merging the two so it's more erotica than outright porn. That's the difference between hentai and yaoi (all of which include shonen ai - I've yet to see a yaoi anime that didn't have characters who were in love as well as lust). With yaoi, the physical and emotional go hand in hand. That can't be compared to your average tentacle hentai porn anime where romance is rarely seen, and even then only used as an excuse for the multiple sex scenes.

It is par for the course; Kamoc just likes being an ass. Don'tcha. *pinches his cheeks*Scintilla wrote:I thought that was par for the course.
It's no different from frat boys drooling over teh hott girl-on-girl action omg!!. It's just that it hasn't been as widely accepted in our society (yet).
Ari, with all due respect, the terms as I learned them dealt with the level of explicitness shown. "___-ai" doesn't imply literally "chaste love" so much as "we aren't showing any of the naughty bits on screen." At least that's always been my understanding. I have never seen friendly/familial love called "___-ai." Um, just as platonic hetero love wouldn't be called "ecchi." Never saw it labeled that way. *shrugs*
Eh, this is slang anyway, so there is a range of interpretation. Mainly I'm just deathly sick of people calling SKU a pornfest when they haven't even seen it.
