DDR music, not in the project. Foolhardy?

I guess I'm not expressing myself very well. What I mean is, will I get backlash for it. I know that there are no guys with clubs coming to kick down my door to stop me from doing it. I mean, will I be followed afterward by people thinking I'm a stupid wannabe riding the coattails of a better set of AMVs.
Originality to most people = never-used anime + never-used song, and the only time people can get away with an already-used song is if it's not a horrendously well-known AMV. Ex. anyone who uses "Engel" now is effectively screwed. They will never live up to the one everyone knows, and they will be seen as a copycat.
If that would be the case here I'd rather just pick a different version of the song.

Nobody has in the past. The only ddr related backlash was when someone wanted to do a full megamix in competition with the main ddr project but that was for all sorts of complicated reasons and all is now forgiven ^_^;;SarahtheBoring wrote:I guess I'm not expressing myself very well. You wont get any backlash for doing a ddr track, not from fans or other creators. You may want to say that it's not part of the ddr projects, but even then I dont think that's required.

Sorry, "shouldn't" is my cover-my-ass word. There isn't any reason why not to make your video. The only person I can think of that got any sort of backlash about making a video using DDR music was TommyRude, but that was because he wanted to take one of the entire Mixes to create another project. We all know what happened with that, and we don't need to go there
Anyhow, I hope you make your video. If anyone gives you shit about it, fuck 'em.

Sarah...
In all this time you've been wondering, asking, replying, and wondering more... you could have been well on your way to just making the damn video :P. Get to it! I'm dying to see an "<I>Ordinary World</I>" video, since Meri's abandoned her idea with the song :P.

I think you are overdramatizing this whole issue. If you think you can make a good vid with a DDR track, why hold yourself back because it's been done before.SarahtheBoring wrote:I mean, will I be followed afterward by people thinking I'm a stupid wannabe riding the coattails of a better set of AMVs.

BTW, just to further crush your unoriginality, ErMaC has been working for a long time on a video using the Aurora version (well, about 3 different Aurora versions mixed together) with an anime I shall remain nameless, commisioned artwork and MUCH prettiness. It's coming along really nicely and should be done just before you finish yours ^_^;;SarahtheBoring wrote:Ordinary World. I'd thought of using the original (a song very near and dear to my heart), but the remix of course has a lot more energy and would probably make a more interesting video. All I do are boring slow videos, for the most part.
(and yes, I know the original has been done too, which is why it sucks all around. But I really want to work with this song in some form.I wish I could be original.)
Don't let these minor details stop you though.

Fuck! Thanks for letting me know, it's a definite no then. THANK GOD you told me that. Thank you thank you thank you. You just saved me a world of pain.
If I could make a GOOD vid at all, this would not even be an issue.I think you are overdramatizing this whole issue. If you think you can make a good vid with a DDR track, why hold yourself back because it's been done before.
TriEngel was made by Nightowl. Pardon me for stating the obvious, but I'm no Nightowl.Wrong. TriEngel wouldn't have won AWA Pro last year if that was the case. The trick is to have a very different video.

And Vegetto, there are already vids to it - apart from that one mentioned there, there are like 6 to the original song, including an Aluminum vid. I don't know why you'd be waiting for it.

Actually, if the vid Ermac is making is that 1337, I'm not going to do the song at all. Correction: I'll make it, because I have to (it's a personal thing, as I've angsted about on my journal), but it's not leaving my hard drive.
Oh thank god you told me that. I feel like I just dodged a major bullet.
