Hey post-it,

It's ok to have early/first vid that you now think sucks. It means that you have grown in your AMV abilities and your perception of what makes a good video. It gives hope to new video creators to see that someone went from making not-so-good vids to making really good vids.

The catalog is here to list every AMV ever created, not just the good ones. ;-)

Heh, I'm half glad to hear that and half disappointed, Phade. I definitely have vids I'd consider 'crap' now that I know better (of course, when I made them I thought they were great  ). But if the server gets filled, it might be nice to delete the poor vids that creators don't want up anymore - it would save space. And there would be fewer 'bad' vids for people to complain about on the org. :?

I rather like having my very first vid up so people can see how much I've improved, but it's still a sad little amv by any standards - a nice waste of space.

Replacing an existing local file with a remastered one is fine, but is currently a pain in the butt for me (soon to be fixed).
I have a video that is almost done and there are some scenes that I felt were really important to the video, but they have some less than stellar video quality (but I didn't want to do without them). Once the dvds for this show are completely released (sometime this fall), I wanted to remaster it and have it all DVD quality. Would I be able to replace that vid at that time if I uploaded the first version (the not that great quality one) to the server, or should I just host that video on my own until I can remaster it? I don't want to cause more work/trouble.

I'd suggest you would be better off to wait on the uploading until you have the final, all-DVD version, particularly if you have some sort of hosting for it now. Less confusion all the way around, and less work for the admins.

I've personally decided on at least a 3 month "waiting period" before uploading any vid to the Donut, so I have time to decide if I'm really happy with the encode, get any feedback regarding playback problems, or anything else I might want to change before comitting.

Yeah I think that's what I'm going to do.

Speaking of uploading to local...

If two members work together on one AMV, can both of them request to link to that video on the server?

Hey Jasper-Isis,

Currently, the answer is no. The catalog is currently designed around the idea that one creator makes a video. This is because when the catalog was created, 99.999% of the vids created were by one and only one creator. But, collaboration is becoming more and more common. The catalog will be modified so that multiple collaborators can receive credit for the same video with only one video entry. Soon...

So, for now, just one creator per vid is how it is. Sorry... :-(

The things is, I've seen some AMV's on local that are linked by two people who worked on it. That must mean that those videos were uploaded twice, right? Is that allowed? (I don't want to point fingers or anything...)

Hey,

It should not happen. That doesn't meant it doesn't happen. There will be motivations to get the info corrected, like not being able to participate in the VCA if the info is not fixed (ie. one of the entries is removed). That should help.
