NOT when it comes to making AMVs. Period.
It still sucks that people don't realize that new people need encouragement too (/cry).
Incorrect. You need to understand that just posting the AMV on the org is NOT going to get it any attention. People cannot encourage you, or give you advice if you don't tell us it's there.

Let me put it another way. If you want a cookie and a pat on the head to the tune of "good newbie", then there are precious few here who will give you that. You're far more likely to get an exhaustive and probably painful to read critique of your work. We're not here to be all happy and sunshine about something that really doesn't deserve it. If you ask for criticism, you'll get it, harsh and unvarnished.

All that said, think for a moment. The population of regular forum users is probably between one hundred and two hundred, maybe as high as three hundred. This site has over 140,000 videos. There's simply no way that we can watch and comment on every single one. It's simply unreasonable to expect that we could, even if we were inclined to try (which we aren't - there are simply too many videos that are utter crap).

So when you come here, you have to catch our attention. We don't have the time or energy to just throw it around at random.

Oh, hey. If you do want people to give you undeserved praise no matter how crappy your work is, there's always boochsack. It's an unrestrained circle-jerk. Most people have no idea what a good AMV looks like.

Of course, there are eighty hojillion videos on it, so you probably can't get the instant gratification you demand there either. But it will be lavish praise for no apparent reason, which you seem to want. Enjoy!

That's no lie! One of the first AMVs I made (which -now- I know really, REALLY sucks), -STILL- keeps getting high praise.

Personally, while seeing someone post they think my work is good gives me the warm fuzzies... I'd -MUCH- rather know what I did wrong, so I won't do it again. Just because it's a hobby and it's not going to make me rich and famous, doesn't mean that I shouldn't do my damndest to improve.

But... that's me, and being an old fart has given me a lot of experience in taking criticism ;)

Where is everyone getting the idea that Gadimus is looking for unrestrained praise? As far as I can tell, his/her annoyance is that the video isn't getting any feedback (or not much), never mind the polarity of such feedback.
