I use DVDs for my source clips. After making my first video, I never wanted to deal with digisubs again.

Premiere 6.0 Beta + DivX-encoded AVIs = annoying as hell.

So, my answer is DVDs. You get better quality out of them, and with HuffYuv, there aren't any compatibility issues to worry about.

Well, I have a couple sources.

If an anime is liscensed in America, DVDs
If an anime is unliscensed, I tend to download it and get all B$%^#y about the fact that I can't find any raw copies.
All Purpose Sexual, Fan Boy Yaoi Yaoi
AMV's I think I make those.

I have to admit, I buy the DVD's too. Usually, I don't make a vid with anything that hasn't been released in the US because the only reason this is barely legal is that we own the DVD's from the US release companies, and it ends up being almost like advertising for them. If you want cheap US releases you could look on Half.com or the animecornerstore.com also sells at a discount. You can only use ebay if you're really, really careful because there are sooooooooooo many crappy bootlegs.

I've been using digisubs and my Premiere never complains. The gag is I end up with DVD quality digisubs to begin with so the final music video ends up nice either way. I just got a DVD rom now so YEAH! I'll be ripping mah OWNZ STUFF soon.

My examples of bad ass digisub amvs:

Fire of Man's Desire
Gimme the Beat

and my fav:

Fade by Onegai Studios
"Strength lies in action. Let the weak react to me..." - Kamahl, Pit Fighter from Magic: the Gathering
"That is a mistake many of my enemies make. They think before they act. I act before I think!" - Vortigern from Merlin ('98)
"I AM REBORN!" - Dark Schneider Bastard!! OAV
