As far as videos go, there's a whole number of videos from jasper-isis which happen to be rather original - to which the fact that their music choice comes from anime OST should be a post-script at best. They just stand on their own as videos, I think.

Good music is found anywhere, surprise surprise. Hell, I discovered my favorite anime through being tipped off that a favorite (non-anime-related) musical artist of mine is featured on its soundtrack

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

it DEPENDS ON YOUR CONCEPT!! I mean, who wouldn't want the AMG op to AMG... I mean... I'LL SHOW YOU, I"LL SHOW YOU ALL!!! *shivers in the corner*
When the point of most amvs is to show how well the song goes with the anime, it's kinda retarded not to concider the songs MADE for the animes. If you like it or not and whether it fits into your concept should be your only question. Anything else is just petty, naive rebellion talking.

Seriously who cares... as long as its anime+music, then its all good when its fun to watch.
Don't hold back in what u want to do. Anime Music? GREAT, use it! I've done that for 5 of my vids and I'm satified with my results.
If other people tell u its a taboo or something, then ignore those freaks.
Well, anyways hav fun.. Hohoho~

I don't like the idea of sayign anything is taboo (other than the obvious qualitiy/technical issues like subs, etc) in AMV editing. As long as you can make an enjoyable AMV from it, any music is game. It also might depend on what exactly you are trying to make. For example, if your making a character profile tribute to a particular anime, and you use that characters particular themesong as the music, then other fans of that character would probably enjoy it, which would be fine since that is its target audience.
