If you don't have any great ideas, don't bother trying to make great videos. If you've got some minor ideas, go ahead and make some simple amvs. Chances are, if you make a quick amv with minimal affort, you might see something interesting in the process and get an idea for a great AMV.
This is a painlessly short sig.

Jump in on a multi-editor project. Someone dictating what song/anime/theme to use always gives you a good kick in the butt. Add in all the other demands like time, deadline and project size, and suddenly you're just a footsoldier in the hands of a Mongol warlord.
Restricted creativity can result in amazingly creative things.

Just work on another amv, you will come back to it when the time is right. And when you do youwill have more experience so it will be even better.
Or watch the anime that you are using for footage to get some ideas. listen to random songs.
I got one Ive been putting off for a year and a half now and when i finish it its sure to be so much better cause i have learned so much more since then

Any of these sound good, and you really can't tell what's going to work till you try it. My thoughts, since I don't edit often either:
1. Don't worry about it. At some point an idea might grab you; then run with it. Till then, hey, you're not under contract.
2. Try something shorter, whether it's an MEP track or just a short song.
3. Try changing your planning - if you usually storyboard or plan with great detail, try grabbing a combination that comes to mind and messing with it to see what happens. If you usually grab and run, try building something up in your mind for a bit.
4. Try a different series/anime genre or different musical style than you're used to. I usually make AMVs with swoony pop crap, but had great fun last year with a rap video. Nice change of pace.
But the main thing is not to worry about it and don't force it. Don't do something because you HAVE to, do it because you want to. IMO. 2c. YMMV. Etc.
