I donno - so far the three ops I've given here were all free (well, as I haven't actually finished my first AMV yet, and don't have permission to actually post one I did for a friend, there isn't anything for them to op, so...). Hopefully, some of them or others witll return the favor when I finally upload something.
For me, it basically boils down to:
1. song - if its a song/group that I like (or know) or isn't one of the popular flavors of the moment, I give it consideration.
2. anime - same as 1. With the exception of the last OP I gave (which was to both a non-favorite anime Naruto and non-favorite group Hoobastank), the others were for the Anime Appleseed (totally by coincidence, really).
3. the request is either made politely (not those OP MY AMV OR DIE sorta threads), or the description in their posting of the AMV is interesting enough for me to download and watch it.
I sort of scour both the AMV anouncements and op exchange looking for stuff that's out there. As I have no AMV of my own (yet) to exchange, I guess I have no other motive than to give reviews and see if I can help out with my opinion (and also to get my nickname known to the boardmembers here too).

Things that make people want to exchange ops with you:
1) You have given them ops that they found usefull in the past. I'd say about half of the people that I do ops for these days, I've already done an op for. Most of the people this thread actually, now that I think about it have had an op by me. I know for a fact that Otohiko, Godix, Al'x, and PenPen2002 give great ops, and thus I'm likely to approach them again. They've given tons of ops.. hence lots of people probably think the same way... and thus: they get lots of exchanges.
2) You are known on the .org forums, and have a reputation for actually thinking about what you type. If lets for an example... Arigatomyna offered a free ops thread, it'd be at 5 pages of requests before a night was done.
3) You have really interesting videos and a good presentation. Take a look at some of the video announcement threads, some are "hey check out my 27th video, it's great", and others take the time to create a poster, or (in one case an entire faux website!). Plus, your video descriptions make a fair difference. When you offer exchanges, people look at the video and decide if it's worth it, if the page has some detail and thought about what went into the video the general consensus is that the video is less likely to suck, and therefore is worth taking a chance on. If the description is the same one line post as the announcement, and the op exchange: that reverses.
4) You have made some great video that shatters everyones perception. Euphoria.. has how many ops on it?
Try *GIVING* lots of free ops, and reading the other posts when you're done, you'll get a pretty good idea of the type of thing that is interesting or not. Plus, if you give lots of ops people are more likely to believe that you will actually return an opinion. Just looking at the usefullness rating of the people that have replied here should give you an idea, if say... PenPen2002, or Otohiko offers an exchange the odds are pretty good you're getting your trade. ( or me for that matter, though it may take a little time.)

A tangential thought: All of your videos have more ops than all of my videos, apart from That Stupid Fluke (which has mostly one-line reviews). What exactly are you whining about? Do you still have no idea what people think of your work after nine opinions? How many do you need?
Maybe you're rolling uphill because you've gathered thoughts from anyone who's likely to speak up. Can't get blood from a stone, and all of that.
How do you review other people's work? I'm guessing that if you give lucid reviews you'll get them back. Your grasp of the language isn't 100%, but it seems okay. It's an op exchange forum (and why isn't this there, anyway?), so ... why don't you review other people's stuff?
I'm not grasping the actual problem here. Do you just need more attention? 'Cause that's not really what the internet is here for.

I used to follow that line of thinking myself, when I saw someone with 20+ ops post in my free op threads I even considered making a rule that you can't have more than 8 ops already. However after I left my op I read the others and realized that someone having 20+ ops doesn't mean they have 20+ USEFUL ops. "That was pretty good except for that one spot" doesn't help much even if it is repeated twenty times. So I never did state that rule and now no longer think someone is being greedy for ops until after I've actually read what they have.SarahtheBoring wrote:Do you still have no idea what people think of your work after nine opinions? That being said, there are a couple people I've seen beg for ops who have more ops on one video than I have on all my videos combined. You really gotta wonder about that sometimes. Especially since if Madbunny, Otohiko, or some of the others already mentioned left an op so I know they got at least one useful one without having to read it.

I am not whining. Personally I am not someone that needs everyone to opinion my vids. This was just something that I happened to notice. I tend to look at the creator when seeing who I am going to exchange with and just wanted to know what other people look at. If this sounds like whining then I apologize.
