First, check the 'help' file and find out what formats it takes for your clips. Most programs will take lossless huffyuv (an avi type), but some only take mpg, wmv, etc - find out if there's any limitation in the program.

You'll still get the footage from your episodes the same way you would with wmm (or any program) - check the guides for that if you're using dvds. If you're using tapes and a capture card, I have no idea.

Either way, get the clips into a format the program takes (huffyuv if it takes avi formats) and that's about it. There's bound to be some sort of 'import' option to open them in your editing program, as long as they're in the right format.

Wow, too old for WMM?

It's hard to get that low. My ideal solution: 'buy a new comp'.

Also, your sigbar, as amusing and cute as it is, is too big. Forum rules restrict signature images to 40 pixels tall or less.

wmm only runs on windows me and xp. so she could be using 98, 2000, or NT, which aren't very old OSes.

anyways, check the guides to learn how to rip/collect the source, and follow arigatomyna's advice.

What? I thought WMM1 ran fine on 2000 (though WMM2 doesn't, according to AD).

oh, i haven't seen it on 2000, but this is what i found on google:
Windows Movie Maker comes only for XP and Me. It is a system component so even if you somehow copy it on to Windows 98/2000 machine it wont work.
