I wasn't aware Armageddon was supposed to be a barrel of laughs (billions dying, the stars falling from the heavens (!?silver_moon wrote:And I didn't think EoE was disturbing because it was confusing, I thought it was disturbing because it depicted Armageddon in a twisted and creepy way. Making a disturbing movie about the end of the world would be fine if it didn't have so many Christian references and symbols. Even the title is a reference ("Neon Genesis Evangelion" means "New Evangelical Beginning", I read somewhere). Because that movie is certainly not Christian.

I never seen any Evangelion apart from trailers and AMVs, so I don't really know if any of this is so...but in one EofE trailer there's this strange looking guy tumbling from a cross, and there a shot of what looks to be cross sprouting multiple eyes...plus I know in the series there is something called "Adam" that needs to be protected. So I'm not surprised to hear religious believers dismayed at all this.
Neon Genesis Evangelion translates roughly as "New Beginning Gospel"...not 100% accurate Greek. I suppose they meant to say "Gospel of a New Beginning" - Neas Geneseôs Evangelion. (Apologies - my Greek is very poor)
