Blowing off some steam...

Post by Stryker » Wed Sep 03, 2003 1:57 pm

*Names have been changed outta the kindness of my heart*

This morning I was going through my normal routine of checking my site, my favorite web comics and all 6 of my email accounts ... I took a peek at my guest book for www.doriimudejitaru.com (my little site for all my videos) and what do I see? Someone basically trashing videos on my site. Now the video was not one of mine,it's one that I so kindly host for a friend that doesn't make videos anymore((also please note that it was his first attempt and he used less that quality footage for it )) now that collage now has taken up most of his time. I also noticed that this punk seems to talk like he knows a thing about videos, so I go to the site that he listed in the guest book entry. And what do I see? Two cardinal sins for making an AMV…

1. Fansubs/subtitled -- Nothing wrong with watching them…I know several people that do wonders when editing with them, but not this time…

2. WMV -- They choose to use windows media whatever as the method of delivery…once again nothing wrong with it, when done right. I personally have made several very nice quality renders with it. But, when you try to squeeze it down to under 5mb and at a rate of 96 - 221 kbps, it just don’t look right…

Now is it right for them to trash out videos on my site, if his videos aren’t that much better? Am I just blowing smoke outta my ass for no apparent reason? Or perhaps, I should cut back on that extra cup of coffee ? *twitch*

Now I know that some will do what they can with what they got. but still a little respect to your fellow creators is needed, yes?

A little insight please?

Sorry if this is not the best of topics , but I just needed to vent… :x

Sounds like a flame to me. If it's in your guestbook you can delete it, right? And if you want to take it up with the person, you can always contact him (since he was brave enough to leave the url). I don't make great vids or host them on my site, but I've gotten at least one post in my guestbook by a fellow vid creator. ^_^ He didn't bother to say anything really rude, just 'the videos here suck, come look at mine, they're much better' - and then he left his website address. I didn't bother to check since I'm sure there are much better editors out there. But the point is that people can be stupid. I deleted his post the moment I saw it, case closed.

If you get a cocky editor who wants to diss anyone he sees as competition, he'll do it. There's no thought behind it, just an ignorant person being an ass. I'd just point out that he doesn't have much place to complain and then call it a day. No sense getting angry about it. Idiots are everywhere.

As I said, Just had to vent... but you're right "Idiots are everywhere". There is just one downside, I can't delete the post, I can't remember what email account I used when I created my guestbook so I can't retrive my password, plus if it's the one that I think it is, then I'm outta luck. I stopped using that ISP a long time ago. Anyways, Thanx for listening :)

I don't really think it matters if they make terrible videos or not. What if an amv fan had trashed the video, someone who wasn't a creator? You really wouldn't have much of an argument. So they didn't like the video. Maybe they were rude about it. Not everyone is respectful when giving comments. All you can really do is take it in stride and move on from it. You can choose to let it bother you or not. If you know the video in question was a good one, then don't worry about it.

Call'm Out.

Post by Slayerwolf » Thu Sep 04, 2003 12:56 pm

Hey man, I feel you. When I first started creating AMV's I got flamed and trashed all over the place. So, I just got better and didn't leave people much room to trash me. I tried to leave it up to personal taste. Anyway, I havn't seen any of your videos so I'm not saying they're bad or that they deserve it. I can't really say otherwise either, sorry to say. But here's what I would do. Why not call this guy out? I mean challenge him to create a video while you do the same and then see who made the best one. Leave it up to the org to decide. If you don't want to do that, then just let it go. One asshole out of a few million people isn't really worth all the attention.
