no matter what people will compare similar videos to each other... its like comparing apples and apples...

some people will like green apples and some only like red, then there are those who like both...

then the people who like green apples will come across a red apple and say yea i like the green one more... but in the end they are both still apples...

im sure that makes no sense... either way its hard not to compare videos to other videos... how else would you know which ones are the "good ones" and which are the "bad ones"?

The important word is "can". Afaik usefulness is computed by the average words/op. You can say nothing with many words and much with less.

And I agree with Jaddziadax. An AMV mustn't be original to be entertaining.

I don't care if my vids are original or not. If I have an idea that I like or something that I want to show - then I make the AMV. If it's considered original, o.k., I'm proud, but if not - it means only that I'm like many other people.

Na, it made great sense. Just spice it up a little.

It's like looking through a candy store. They might have white chocolate instead of the same brown stuff all their competitors have, and that's what they brag about as their "token originality" factor. But if you're hunting for gobstoppers you're not going to be impressed. Every candy store has chocolate. It doesn't matter how pretty the mold is or how shiny the wrapper, it's still the same thing they all have. Chocolate. They don't hold a candle to the store down the road that sells sour patch kids and gummy worms. ;p

Naruto is over-used, but at least people have 200+ episodes of footage to use. The even larger problem with Advent Children, is everyone is taking footage from 1 90min movie. So they tend to all use the same 5-10mins of footage ad nauseum.

I still don't think the problem is the videos. The videos are fine.

The problem is the people who make unremarkable videos that are doomed to drown in the over-saturated scene, and then when the inevitable repercussions catch up - whine to no end for being marked down on originality.

There are 4 solutions to this:

1) Make videos for yourself and screw what other people think.

2) Pull out the guides, pull out a more diverse music catalogue, pull your brain out of your rectum, and strive to make original and superbly executed videos that will inspire the masses and win fame.

3) Make videos for yourself and a smaller (but not neccesarily limited) circle of like- or open-minded individuals. Ignore the masses.

4) Stop making videos.

I for one prefer option 3
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

no source = source; the series you used, not your clip choice or your editing style... that's why it's bullshit as a rubric. Word choice and clarity are important here (i.e. DBZ vids are looked down upon because it's the same choice of clips, the same poorly executed action videos with tons of screaming etc.)... How about a well done DBZ commercial parody or yaoi fan-service vid? When people say originality is based on the series, they're saying that the above examples would be unoriginal - which is, in a word, ridiculous.

It's like putting rocks into the rock crusher!! You can put in granite or coal but all you get out is... ... dust... wait what were we talking about again??

it's like peeing in your friends bathroom, whether it's on the left or on the right it always just feels wrong.

It's not like we force you to make original videos, just don't complain that you got lower originality score, and comments about that for unorginal vids. It's really simple - if you wanna make vids for yourself than do what you like, and be prepared to bear the critisicm calmly. If you wanna make the vids to appeal the public - well... you must know what have been done too many times and avoid it, or make it good enough to be exceptional. Nothing really more to that.
