Favourite Vacations Spots, Anyone?

Post by azulmagia » Thu Nov 13, 2003 9:10 pm

Not that we're starting to sink deep into the throes of winter :( , I thought it might be therapeutic to discuss great places to go for a vacation to escape the winter blahs. I've been to Florida once, years ago. I went to Disney World and Cape Canaveral and saw the Vehicle Construction Building and the Space Shuttle. I saw and experienced the Atlantic Ocean. It was hot there and featured giant roaches and lizards crawling on walls.

So what are your vacation stories and experiences? Real vacations only please, not wishes and fantasies. Some people may be living in vacation zones and know better than a bunch of tourists what it's like living there, and have vacations stories form the other side, so to speak. Those stories are OK too.

So...post away!

Well, I lived in Hawaii for four years. From what I understnad its a pretty popular vacation spot.

I lived on the island of Oahu, on the windward side. We lived on the marine/naval base at Kailua, it was on a penensula. Due to the surrounding mountains clouds were often trapped, so that the sun was not burning all day long, there was also a very comfortable ocean breeze.

On the leeward side though, it looked like Arizona......only rockier. I only went there a few times, to go to the new water park they built there(why they put a waterpark in Hawaii is beyond me) and to go scuba diving off the coast.

All in all it has a very friendly atmosphere, although it does have a sense of being crowded, due to housing being built in almost every location it can be....without ruining the scenic view of course.

Oh yeah, and due to its closer proximity to Japan, and the number of Asian people living there anime was available in much greater quantity. The local Blockbuster for instance, had an anime section that was a good four rows long.

And thats in reference to almost EVERY vacation/campground spot here in southern california, damn fires.

i visited the florida keys twice over winter break during high school. definitely a nice change from the cold february weather up north. there were a bunch of nice places to eat right on the water so I could watch the sunset while eating quesadillas and drinking strawberry daquiris. very relaxing.

cape cod is pretty nice during summer. lots of shops, and some good biking trails. the weather is usually very comfortable.

Disney world was fun,

Disney land blew (of course I was 6 when I went, therefore I chouldnt ride the rides. mickey mouse, you tall bastard! Whats he doing holding a ruler anyway!?).

Tunica mississippi Sucked (gambling) it had nothing for kids (or teenagers).

The grand canyon is always interesting, although if you want a big hole in the ground, it's always less expensive to buy a shovel and get to digging to candy land.

If you live around Arkansas or Missouri, Silver dollar city is a nice change of pace, though they just built this new one next too it called celebration city, and it has a nice sized arcade (DDR anyone?).

California is nice, I lived in Sacramento for about 5 years, I wouldnt recommend Sacramento, or L.A. But any place other than that is nice, watch out of the mudslides :P.

Washington (state) is a nice place, I got a chance to go there to see my step brother once, and besides it being cold there alot of the time, it's a nice place (very bright with the leaves in fall).

Las vegas is equaly as impressive as people say it is, although I whouldnt want to live there (other than to be with my girlfriend of course :P) It's a great place to vacation.

Arkansas is pretty nice, this year all the leaves turned relitivly quickly so there was really no color in them, but usualy if you drive threw around october you get a nice drive (it'll be romantic with girls ;) ).

I don't recommend Novia Scotica, Canada (For the simple fact that my brother in law lives there... ~_~;;). It's an ok place, they just had a hurrican not too long ago though, pretty weird for that place to get them that far north.

I was born in Flordia, and I still like it, Disney world and orlando are nice, sea world is a bitch, they have some REALLY nice houses on the ocean (and new, they have to replace them after every hurricane, insurence is such a bitch).

Dallas, Texas is nice, if you want to see a tornado.

Oklahoma, same as above.

Anyway, that's about all I can think of, that I've been to myself (sorry for being so long winded :P.
