Nothing too bad yet... although there was the time when I completely dismantled my old 286/12Mz, 1MB, 40 Mb HDD, put it back together and used it while holding the HDD in my hand (big chunky 5¼").
Oh wait a second... about four months ago I turned off the external fan switches on a friends 1337 case-modded system (uncertain specs), completely obliterating his system partition and crippling the Adelaide fan-sub distribution center for weeks. We haven't spoken since then.

Did you do that on purpose or accident?Declan_Vee wrote:Oh wait a second... about four months ago I turned off the external fan switches on a friends 1337 case-modded system (uncertain specs), completely obliterating his system partition and crippling the Adelaide fan-sub distribution center for weeks. I had a Compaq all-in-one (you know, monitor and computer were one piece of equipment) 75 Mhz computer back in the day. I decided to take it apart to see all the inner workings, but that meant the inside of the monitor was exposed along with everything else. Looking back on it I'm just glad I didn't electrocute myself while it was open and running

Accident. I was trying to turn it off. He told me to "Press the button on the front" There were at lest 10 of them, complete with about 4 or 6 custom LEDs. Hell, the thing even had a power outlet sticking out on the front.kthulhu wrote:Did you do that on purpose or accident?Declan_Vee wrote:Oh wait a second... about four months ago I turned off the external fan switches on a friends 1337 case-modded system (uncertain specs), completely obliterating his system partition and crippling the Adelaide fan-sub distribution center for weeks. Well, I didn't do it. Nature did. I'm on a LAN connection with my next door neighbor and we had a thunder storm one night. Lightning struck the cat 5 cable and fried both are nics. Not a big deal for me. A $10 nic or so, but my friend's nic was integrated into the mother board and his comp is a Dell 8100 which uses unstandard mounts and power supply. So to replace to the mother board would have cost him $300 or so. Nedless to say be bought a new case and mother board and came out with more cash than if he stuck to Dell's case.

I usually install whatever u/g I get in my carpeted room (if it's a mobo I usually have to spread it out on my bed... take the blanket off first ;-p aint I smart?? that blanket can REALLY kill a comp -duhduhduh) the morning after I get it (usually get the stuff after dinner, read the instructions etc. while watching TV, forget about it over night, take a bath than install ;-p). I dunno why, I know it's a really crappy way of going about things but Idunno I've never had a part fail on me (5+ years) so...
BTW computers are not nearly as fragile as CS reps'd make you think, I've kicked, punched, spit on my comp... just need to do it carefully ;-p.
