This really surprises me, I woke up to this. It's sad to think that some news stations are claiming this is a result of terrorism which is a physicla impossibility, nothing any country has can accuratly fire surface to air at a target just entering the atmosphere and moving at mach 18. I feel really bad for the families though.

Really what's sad is that NASA will probably spend in the investigation enough money to feed Africa for 3 fucking months, fuck space travel we should concentrate on mor earthly concerns, i don't give a fuck about going to outer space to place satelites with gioant laser beams to fucking burn the face of earth, fuck NASA
***The NASA budget is LESS THAN 1/10 of ONE PERCENT of the TOTAL federal Budget.
***For every dollar that NASA spends, we get 25 dollars back into the economy; the highest turn-a-round of a dollar of any company or organization in the World.
***12 Astronauts walked on the Moon, for one third of the amount of money that is spent by Americans each year, on Pizza.
*** Each year, video games take in enough quarters to finance 5 space missions to Jupiter and Saturn.
*** The yearly cost of the consumption of alcohol and tobacco products by Americans is approximately 4 times that of the space budget.
Golden Saucer, "go away, and take your stupid with you."
And so far the only people that I have heard saying anything about terrorism are saying it like this "I bet some (redneck/moron/conservative/republican) is going to blame this on terrorism. Well it's not, you're stupid and wrong, that's why I'm right."
The wired knight is quit right. This isn't an act of terrorism, it's a terrible accident.

Wow. That's wacked.
I have heard that there are potentially better reusable space vehicle designs out there, but NASA uses the space shuttle because they have it, and more importantly to justify the massive amounts of money it cost to build them back in the 80's. The shuttle is over 20 years old last time I checked. It might be a good idea, in light of this accident, to look at other (better, cheaper even?) designs. The shuttle will have to be replaced one day - this provides a good reason to do so, in my opinion.
And Golden Saucer, FUCK AFRICA. We feed them for three months, then what? The famine or whatever strife it is this week is not over, and they're hungry again, if they weren't STILL hungry before - a lot of food aid does not reach its intended recipients, instead going to the government's military, or some warlord's troops, and maybe the people in his territory. When we help Africa in the weak manner we've been doing, we just delay or aggravate the inevitable. It's just as much, IF NOT EVEN WORSE, of a waste to feed Africa in the state it's in, as it is to do space research.
And if there is anyone who has to take care of Africa, it'd be Europe. Their colonialism created this mess.

Sorry you are irritating me. Space travel is really important to humanity. Africa is a stupid waste of time fuck them. I want to see us accomplishing something before I die.

Seven people dying in one shot isn't a big deal? Now I know why we live on such a fucked up planet. Because of dumbass attitudes like these.AKH257 wrote:i dont think this is really a big deal. accidents happen. it wasnt errorism. u have to take chances and those astronaunts knew that

It comes down to the astronauts tangible value, of sorts.BishounenStalker wrote:Seven people dying in one shot isn't a big deal? Now I know why we live on such a fucked up planet. Because of dumbass attitudes like these.
This explosion represents the loss of billions of dollars, years of hard work, and untold intellectual investment, as well as what the shuttle itself represents, namely a tribute to mankind's yen to explore, as well as being a stepping stone to the realization of the vision of humanity's (hopeful) destiny in the stars.
Basically, the impact of this disaster comes from just that investment. So much was put into the project, that it takes on an aura of invincibility. When it goes (seriously) wrong, it hits hard. People say money can't buy happiness. That's debatable, but one thing money (nothing can, really) can't buy is absolute certainty. Yet we feel it can, and did, and it didn't. We have lost 7 astronauts, and all that they represented. Does this make their deaths any worse than 7 regular Joes?
I'd say yes.

Very good point, kthulhu. As usual ^_^
I agree. Just the loss of life in this event is terrible. But the loss of everything those seven lives stood for along with them makes it that much more devastating.
