The joys of word filters...

Could we perchance add to the AMV announcement etiquette why our favourite new word filter will screw up for all the wayward newbs who try to post their videos from there.

In fact, why not add the link to Moonslayer's guide that explains how to upload videos to the org to said thread.

I realize not all newbies will read it, but for those who do, it'll help avoid frustration.

That announcement doesn't tell what word is being filtered. It doesn't even hint that it's a website being filtered, let alone that it's a popular one the newbs might be trying to link to. The only way they'd stumble onto that announcement is if they figured out to do a forum search for the first post using the word 'hosatchel'. The thread title doesn't even say which word filter it's talking about.

No, as it is, that announcement thread is useless for tipping off new members. It's only good for those who already know what's being filtered out. You know, the regulars who figured it out in the second or third posts of the thread.

I think a link to moonslayer's guide would be very helpful in the absence of any explanation for the new members.

IF an admin were to mention the filtered word, it would just be filtered. If they choose to go around it via YuTub or something similiar, they would be making themselves to be more hippocritics.

I CAN SEE NO EZ ANSWER EXCEPT THE BUSH ANSWER! Rules need not apply to those in command.

Maybe some sort of sticky noting that certain websites can't be linked, or written of, here. And a suggestion that those who find their links being automatically renamed should use the upload guide to put the video here instead of on the banned and filtered site. No need to say the name of That Site.

If a sticky is too ugly, you could try some automated mod-like response to any forum post that includes a filtered link. Or change the word filter from "hosatchel" to "a-site-that-is-not-welcome-here". It would be far more self-explanatory.

...but then people will be able to deduce what site that is. I say keep Hosatchel.

Do we really want people around here carrying hot satchels of liberal lunacy like that video hosting is free, or that quality over quantity matters? I thought not.

Seriously though, I like ari's idea about changing it from hosatchel to that site is not welcome here. How much per vote will it cost to get this into effect?
