Re-viewable Score Descriptions

Post by ShonenDizzyCow » Fri Nov 22, 2002 6:05 am

Hey, I feel the score descriptions for the re-viewable field could certainly be improved, and worth considering

Example:
2 - I deleted this video immediately after a partial watching.
3 - I couldn't finish watching it the first time. Why would I want to watch it again?

These 2 description fields seem to indicate that it's okay to give a review even when you've not watched the entire video. I'm not sure what people think of this, but I feel it's is a really bad/unfair way of reviewing a video. I think a good minimum requirement to give a review is that the video being reviewed is actually watched, at least once!.

On the whole, the descriptions seemed to promote a bell curve distribution, perhaps deliberately? Also using a fixed period of time to indicate score currently seem a little rigid/inconsistent too. I think instead of using the frequency of re-watching, perhaps the enjoyment of re-watching would be a better reference?

A possible alternative suggestion.....?

10 - This is one of my all-time favorites to re-watch. A classic.
9 - I often get urges to re-watch the video. Worthy re-watching.
8 - I'll enjoy watching it again.
7 - I sure don't mind re-watching this video once in a while.
6 - I’ll re-watch it again, but not very often
5 - I have no urge to watch the video again, but I wouldn't suffer when I do.
4 - Watching it again will test my patience. I’ll probably not watch it again.
3 - I had trouble sitting through it. I will probably not keep the video.
2 - Very difficult to watch, I'm deleting the video shortly after this.
1 - I only managed to painfully watch it all in a couple of sittings; I immediately purged it from my computer after the review.

Hmm well, for what it's worth.

Hey,

That's a good point. But your list implies that for the average video, you should "have no urge to watch the video again, but I wouldn't suffer when I do" since 5 is average. ;-)

I'll see what I can do about rewording the number popups.

Any suggestions for popups for the other items?

What I was thinking was that since 5.5 is the average, 5 would indicate a somewhat indifferent attitude towards watching the video, not much dislike, but not much like either, which seemed somewhat to be a halfway point between adoring and loathing it, at least from my perspective. It would be nice to have more opinions on this of course from others...

Hey,

I disagree here. Since good videos are much much more likely to receive comments than crappy videos, the resulting average is skewed upward. If EVERY video had full comments from EVERY downloader and the average was how it is, then I would agree.
