See who have downloaded your amvs

Post by JenCM18 » Sun May 08, 2005 3:16 am

Just thought this up and I think it would be a good idea. Some people may not like it but I think it would be nice.

It would kind of help so you can check if any of the people who downloaded your amvs stole your footage and used it in their own amvs or not.

I was thinking that maybe that their could be list of the usernames of people who have downloaded your amvs.

Does anyone else think that this would be a good idea?

Yeah. I think that it is a good idea. Doing that, you can narrow it down to see if your footage has been stolen or not.

And you can PM or email people who downloaded your video to beg for ops! Great idea.

I made the same sujestion a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time ago. At the time I'd bein a member of the site for about two-three months and had released 2 amv's. Now I've got a total of 4 amv's released.

It isnt going to help in trying to find people who've stolen your footage and honestly, as long as people dont know about it they woent give a damn.

i think the idea wouldnt work, look at the videos with above average downloads, like dokidoki for instance, single videos that have more downloads than most creators entire catalog.

Exactly. The sheer processing power, server time to do calculations, etc. would certainly not make it worthwhile. Doing those kinda calculations on what 200,000+ users every X hours/days? Doesn't seem like the usefulness of this would justify the amount of work you'd have to do.

Er, averages aren't that hard to calculate on large datasets.

Also, I think it'd be hilarious for a paranoid to go through a thousand or so names to see if anyone had stolen THEIR PRECIOUS FOOTAGE (in bold, even!) So, in the interest of tying up the lives of people obsessed enough to perform those kinds of searches, I say give them that data. It'll keep them off the forums, at any rate.

LOL that is funny. But no I'm not obsessed of anyone stealing my footage just thought I'd suggest it. lol. please don't hate me because of this post. lol

Even though now they might you know. But oh well I guess. Your right Bum would never know who stole your footage since there are too many members on here. And most of them probably do take footage from other amvs a lot.

I wouldn't mind if someone used my footage just as long as they credited me at the end of their amv which I highly doubt they would even do that....but I guess again oh well.. I don't care that much anymore

This would only prove useful for those people making vids in small genres, where it's already very easy to spot the copycats since no one else is using that footage/genre. The need isn't high enough for the rest of the creators, and the drawbacks are way too high (harrassing downloaders being top, but also attacking the first person to download and leave a star - ruining the annonymity of the star scale). Not to mention it wouldn't help with the people who download your vid and then share it on p2p networks - where copycats can honestly say they didn't know it was *your* vid - they got it off Kaaza.

/related note

What happened to fan management? I don't need to know who downloaded them since I already know how many did, but I'd really like to know who favorited my vids.
