just let us write up the guidelines for the forum first
As previously stated:
- Number of posts per page defined - 20
- Number of pics per post defined - 5
- Maximum image size defined - 640 x 480
- Maximum file size - 25 k?
- Accepted file types - .png, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg
And perhaps some info for newbies on how to post pics without the infamous [x] appearing.
**Heck while we're at it, you might consider making the Weird/Sexy Screencaps stickies since they're so popular.
That way people need only make some descriptive/specific titles as topics for image/screencap requests etc.
1. While both are popular, they may die down some.
2. There are waaaayyyaaayayayayayayayay (the overuse of letters emphasizes the point) too many diverse areas to be covered if they were to get their own forum. I think that Wierd screencaps and Sexy screencaps should be locked (but not deleted), and new threads be created, like this:
Ecchi Weird screencaps
*for stuff like Futari Ecchi and perhaps Green Green or Hanayuko Maid Tai (and yes, I probably spelled that wrong)example*
Fake Subtitles Weird screencaps
*Things like propyro's pic from Hellsing with the caption "This will fuck up my afterparty with Alucard", or the "You're resistance only makes my penis harder" (I couldn't find an example, so think real hard and you should know what I mean)*
Out of Context Weird screencaps
*Taking akward lines and using them for a misinterpretation of the actual events example*
General Weird screencaps
*Anything that is just that, weird. Stuff like weird faces or actions, perhaps like stuff from Excel Saga (not episode 26) or Vash's faces from Trigun example*
Sexy screencaps
*Caps from non-hentai romantic scenes with some sexual conotation*
Sexy fan art
*Not really screencaps but sexy nonetheless*
Romantic screencaps
*Romantic scenes with no sexual conotation. The kind that make you go "Awww, young love, etc.*
Romantic fan art
*Non-hentai romantic scenes of heterosexual pairings from the same or different anime.*
Yaoi
*Non-hentai yaoi fan art (I've never seen this in an actual anime besides Excel Saga, which doesn't count, but if it's in there throw it in too)*
Yuri
*Non-hentai yuri fan art (I've never seen this in an actual anime besides Excel Saga, which doesn't count, but if it's in there throw it in too)*
And that's all I can think of right now. Also, we could have genre specific threads, maybe a manga scans thread (one page per volume per person ONLY, no posting whole volumes), and perhaps commentary threads on the more popular topics in order to keep the pictures seperate from the blabber.
Oh, and the bold means I agree with it, or I added the numbers I think we should use. As far as forcing file types, you can always use something similar to Reaconverter Pro to convert your images to prevent or minimise color loss. Perhaps we could include a guide for that as well, of course as a sticky. The file size is something I just threw out there, and may be too small or too large, I have no idea. I've been off 56k for too long now, and I've become accustomed to having fast speeds.
One more thing, no quoting pictures, period. We already saw them. If you have questions or comments go to the commentary threads (assuming they exist). I also included a few example pictures, but I just got sick of looking and said "fuck it".
Whew, man I hope he's accepting suggestions, that took a little bit of thought.

Because I'm an attention whore [tips for screencaps forum]
Yes, I posted this in the sticky, but I don't know if it will get the exposure I want there. These are my suggestions on how I would like to see a screencaps forum run (seeing as it may be coming soon, due to AD's comment in the thread):

Just, you know, FYI, that was the real caption, AFAIKbilly_wires wrote: or the "You're resistance only makes my penis harder"

The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

As for the picture per post, I feel that the rule Shoujo-ai Heavens used (which is one pic per post) is much better since it reduces the loading time of the images. Also, aren't PNG files little bit bigger in filesize?

Well, it's a double-edged sword. One pic per post stretches the topic, a lot of pics per post stretch the pages. Frankly, even with no bandwith whatsoever (my current access thing is really bad), I prefer the latter, tbh.

The ones at deviantart.com are HUGE compared to all other file types. But maybe it's just because people who want perfect quality use that file type and let it be huge - rather than because the file type is naturally uncompressed. I just know all the ones I downloaded (even for small 320x240 pics) that were png, were at least 2 times as big as a normal jpg/gif pic.Otohiko wrote:PS. and I thought PNG's were actually smaller.

Well, actually, that would sort of make sense, seeing that most .png's I've seen lately were rather high-quality. Still, I don't think they're so huge as to be completely avoided - even if .jpegs might seem like a better idea as far as screencaps go.Arigatomyna wrote:The ones at deviantart.com are HUGE compared to all other file types. Geez people. I thought everyone knew better than this. Jpeg is good for photos and such with lots of random colors and gradients. Jpeg introduces noise into the image and on images like those the noise isnt usually noticable except at high compression rates.
Png is good for images that contain solid areas of color, such as screenshots of programs running on your computer. Anime screenshots do not have solid colors, as there is noise from the compression, thus png doesnt work as well on it as Jpeg most of the time. Png still does quite well usually though.
As far as one being smaller than the other, thats ENTIRELY based upon 2 things.
1. The style of image. Does it have solid colors or not?
2. Your compression settings. Yes believe it or not, you can ADJUST the level of compression on both jpeg and png. In jpeg raising the compression level increases noise and artifacts. In png, you increase the compression level by reducing the number of colors used.
