the online journal.

Post by DDramone » Fri May 07, 2004 5:09 pm

im getting hooked on the online journal thing.

i noticed that the journal entries i write on one computer dont show up on another. i usually write from 2 comps. on at school (my web design class that i should be working in) and one from home. i go to read my journal, and i can only read the ones i wrote on the comp im at. wat happened?

2 more things.

whats the usual reason people put other people on ther journal buddy list thingy? they know each other? they've spoken on the forum? do they usually get each others permission first? or do people just do it cuz some ones life seems parralel with theirs?

i also wanted to try out an idea with you guys. before i make an ass out of myself and post it in the suggestions box, what do you guys think of comenting on other peoples journal entries? to play devils advocate, it would be really anoying to have people you dont know and dont care about telling you how you should run our life, but, you have those same people read them, dont you? and maybe there could be a thing were only people on a certain list or something can coment. iono, im in a daze. could be just a brain fart.

As far as them not showing up, thats pretty weird. Are you sure they are both logged into the same account? Do they eventually show up, or never show up?

As far as journal buddies, its basically just a list for your personal use, of peoples who's journals you like to read. For instance, if i found your journal interesting, I would add you to my journal buddies list, and then I will have a link to your journal so I can read it at any time.

Also, those people on your buddies list can see the posts you make 'private.' If someone isn't on your list, he can't see the post - and it doesn't even show up on your member page (it'll register the last *public* post you made to anyone who isn't a 'buddy'). It's just a way of letting select 'buddies' see things you don't want the general population reading.

Well, that's how it worked with me, but I could be a weird exception. ^_^; I had my friend India join up the last time she visited and after she left I kept checking her journal, but it said her last post was months ago. Then I got her on the phone and mentioned it and she said she *had* made two posts since that last one (the only one I could see) and that she *thought* she'd put me on her buddies list. Well, I got her on msn messenger, made her add me to her list again, and boom - there were those two posts, just like she said. And they were being read on her main page as the last 'entries made' - the date changed and I could see the private messenges. Before she added me, I couldn't see them. So I figure - private = buddies list.

Whoa

I just thought private meant as in no one, including people on your buddy list, can read the journal entries.

Odd... that's not the way it used to work.

Like I said, it could just be a bug I had. ^_^;

If you want to test it, just have someone make a 'private' entry - without you being on his/her buddies list. If you can see it, I just found a bug. If you can't see it till you're added, that's the way it works. ^_^ I'll volunteer if anyone's interested, just let me know ahead of time so I can remove you from my list if you're on it - before I make a private entry.

and i've been logged on the same account(im only supposed to have one, right? :wink: ). to check whats going on, could some one look at my profile and tell me how many posts they see?

also: what did every one think of the comenting thing? thinking it over, i guess it would be hard and probly not that smart turning it into some kinda forum, but i just wanted to put it out there.

I see 4 posts, the last one on the 7th starting with 'joe turned.' If you made any more than that, they must have been private.

As for responding to journals - I think there's some sort of rule against making your journals into a 'chat' or a forum. It's nothing that I've seen in writing, but I hear people get 'talked to' when they start doing that sort of back and forth chatting instead of using pms or emails, or even the chatroom.
