BIG PROBLEM with local downloads.....

Post by gypsy » Fri Jan 23, 2004 12:53 pm

I too have a problem with downloading videos.

I'm using WinXP Professional.
Opera Browser
I'm on a 56k home modem.
I'm trying to get this video: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=29991

I go through the normal procedure of downloading a local video.

It takes me to the pledge screen.
I click on proceed.
Then takes me to the video information screen.
Like so

Then, instead of prining up a window to save it take me to another screen. Like so

I've noticed that this only happens on the nago server.

Another problem I found was when I was trying to download this video http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=30186

I click to download the video.
Goes past the pledge screen, then to video info screen.

Then it opens windows media player and with this error message:
"ClassFactory cannot supply requested class"
and then it goes back to the pledge screen.

This is a big problem for me. I must be able to resume downloads cause of my 56k line that drops the connection.

Also I promised reviews to people that I can't give them cause I cant download their videos.

I would also like to download some of the top 10% files but am unable to.

Hey,

I don't use Opera, but I'm sure there must be some option that says something to the effect of "download this file instead of trying to play it in the default media player" option. What should happens is that the file should be handed to you as a download file instead of trying to "play" the file.

Sorry I'm not much more help on this one...

Thanx for the reply.

It's only that on that open media player.

Most of the local downloads and ALL of the stuff on the nago server gives me the first problem.

If it's local and NOT on the nago server it brings up the save as window and all is peachy.

You use IE 6 ?

We've spoken a while back to get the files downloadable thgough getright as well but it I enver got it right...

Hey,

I have not tested GetRight, but the download manager in Mozilla works. Perhaps you should try that one.

Try using Mozilla Firebird. I know for a fact that it has a resume feature. Just used it last night in fact. Its a small download too.

Thanx.

I'll give it a try.

Maby I should change my slogan to:

"The quest for compatable resuming browsers for www.animemusicvideos.org..."

As thi'll be the 7th browser I install to try and download videos from the .org :?

Hey Gipsy,

From what I saw on the images you provided it appears that It is downloading the videos but not having the dialog pop up to as you where you want to save them. If this is indeed the case here are some step by step procedures to fix this problem.

1) In the Opera browser go to File --> Preferences.
2) Next click on File Types.
3) Deselect 'Hide file types opened with Opera'
4) Next select one of the file video file types that you're having trouble with. In this case I chose Avi. It doesn't matter which you chose right now.
5) Now Click the edit button.

6) Select the 'Show download dialogue'
7) Click Ok
8) Repeat steps 4 through 7 for the file types that you have trouble with.

I followed the steps and found that, that option was already ticked for avi. (Problem extension).

I was hoping to be able to get getright to catch the links with the "use application tag" but that only ccatches the php url...

I switched it back and it works fine now for some reason.

I saw that the file was downloding before ut it's senceless cause I can't resume that way.

Neway...

It works now.
Thanx all.
