I'm pretty sure that Phade, the admins and mods feel that General Anime is actually quite terrible and should be axed.
However it's existance is justified. Where as Off Topic wasn't.

Man you guys make it seem like Phade killed your favorite puppy or something.

Phade made a decision. It's his site. Respect his decision and move on with your life. There are plenty of alternative forums where you can discusss "off-topic" things like Demonseal. It's not like this is the only place where you can post things.

I'm getting pretty tired of seeing this "suggestion" in the "Site Suggestions" every week and moreso disappointed to see the same people saying the same thing even though it's been adequately addressed.

Get over it. It's just a forum. A forum for an Anime Music Video Site.

The OT forums were the real reason that I started posting on the forum. I thought it was pretty cool for a load of people who all have the same common intrest in anime or AMVs to talk about other stuff.

I know that I spammed up the place pretty bad at some times (e.g. the infamous Sugarmints intro thread) but at the end of OT I was one of the many who was getting pretty sick of people posting for no reason at all-even though sometimes I was one of them.

Since the removal of OT I left the forum for a while but I came back and I think that I've acted like a grumpy arsehole at times to newbs and general idiot-just because they haven't posted in the right forum, the right forum being the OT ones.

In closing, tell us what we have to do to get OT back and keep it, then lock this thread and, hopefully, everyone will change.
I'm bored and you're dumb. A match made in heaven.

I'm not a mod, and can't read their minds. However it seems that what would really help the cause of bringing back OT is if someone were to write a karma system and pose some guidelines for the forum. With a karma system, the OT would be more able to take care of itself, and less of a drain on the efforts of the mods, whose abilities are needed managing other parts of the site.

Forum guidelines would be some actual phpBB code to do stuff like auto-split threads (locking the parent) at, say, 10 or 15 pages, locking threads after a week of no posts, or deleting locked threads a week after the lock date. I don't have the time or sufficient interest to work up either of these, but I know there are people out there with both php skills and the interest in having OT forums.

The lower the burden that reviving OT will impose on the mods, the more likely the forums are to be brought back. As long as it's presented as nothing more than the same old hassle all over again, they will continue to just say "stay on topic" and "use the chatroom".

I don't think you guys are reading what Phade has outright said (numerous times). He DOESN'T WANT an Off-Topic forum on these boards...PERIOD. No matter how much moderation, lack of spam or even if there's a karma system.

The purpose of the forums is for the discussion of Anime Music videos. Whether technical, artistic or even the source itself (General Anime). Phade wants to keep the site ON-TOPIC and thus no desire for an off-topic forum. The site is "AnimeMusicVideos.org," what do you think he wants us to discuss in these boards?

He's explicitely said this a number of times and it's his site. Deal with it.

i repect phade. i think he is a really great guy.

but where the answer to my question? why would you not provide an OT if thats what a lot of people want? even still this is an AMV forum, are we not close friends enough to talk about other things? we are members of an organization i believe, thats why its called a-m-v.org... your saying is like... "We are a wine (amv) club, but you can still drink a little bit of water (cosplay) in the kitchen (convention section), but sorry no coke (OT) because we are boring people who only drink wine all the time. -_-

First off, you continually say "Why hasn't anyone answered my questions?" in hopes to put validity in your argument. I imagine you keep saying this in hopes that people will go "yeah why haven't they" and thus people will support it since obviously the administration can't answer it. This must mean you're right!!!!111 Yet you fail to realize that it has already been addressed *AND* paizuri provided adequate explanations twice in this thread alone.

As Phade, the Administration and even myself and other members have said (again), this community is about anime music videos. Phade wants that to be the focus and thus no off-topic. Can there be a more direct answer to your "question?"

Also as Andy said, why does the administration need to "back-up" their actions? It's Phade's side. If anything, they should be asking YOU why there should be an off-topic, not the other way around.

If you respect Phade like you say, then respect his decisions too. This is like the nine-millionth post about having an off-topic forum and I have seen no new arguments or anything even remotely close to a valid reason to bring them back. All of them have been refuted utterly.

Get over it and move on to another forum for such activities. Where does it say in the "Rules" or "Mission Statement" that we need to provide you entertainment or an area to chit-chat?

The answer to that is easy. 'What people want' and 'what is good for the site as a whole' aren't always the same thing. For a large number of reasons it was decided that the OT forums (in their previous incarnation) were not good for the site as a whole, so they were closed.

Since that day, nothing has happened which would mean that OT forums would stop being bad for the site. Furthermore, it is not presently high on the priority list because that the moment the effort to make it work well is not worth the gain.

Maybe somewhere down the line it will become more viable, but definitely not right now (for all sorts of reasons you aren't privvy to you'll just have to believe me :P)

P.S.: Daniel get off your soap box for a sec :P You are telling someone to "get over it" who never really had "it" in the first place. He's asking valid questions.

I really think this should be locked now. Every valid point that should be addressed has been addressed and now people sound almost hostile. Maybe it would help to put a "Why there is no off topic forum" locked thread at the top of this forum.
