x2.

The thing is, AMVs made here are generally worth keeping, whereas on the tube they pretty much all just suck, so you'd only want to watch it once anyway.

(waited for replys so-as not to double post.)

In the end:
Streaming = Lazyness
Lazyness = Worthless AMV's
Worthless AMV's = No point for the org to exist.
amen.

this has been said before(can't remember who, but it may have been me)
there are pro's to streaming video, like watch-ability and not wasting time on vids that "might" be "worth the watch"

but the pro's of being able to download is way higher.

I watch the boobertube every now and then, an alot of times I find videos I'd like to watch while I'm offline, but I can't because there on that site.

here, I find a vid, not only can I download and keep the video, but I have permission to do so. and I don't have to worry about sharing the vid, cause I can always just point to the user who made it, and the users other vids are promoted in the process!

all-in-all the org is the way to go for quality and well thought out vids(partiailly due to the mass opinions one can obtain from from the announcments ect, forums.
not only that, but you have direct contact to the user who made the video, you can ask anything you want of that use with just a few clicks.

8-)

(post your polls, org vs tube :) )
Everything came from nothing, therefore everything is nothing.

There's nothing to worry about.

i'd probly watch more amvs if they were streaming here. i'd rather watch a reduced filesize version first to see if it's worth dling the full quality version.

but again it'd take up too much bandwidth for local servers.

Instead of streaming video the org might want to consider emulating Akross. They have the full sized version of the file but right by it there's a link for a compressed to hell and back preview version that's usually something like ten times smaller. It'd require more HD space for the org but I suspect it'd actually save on bandwidth. I'm sure many of us have had those times we download a video we're pretty sure we won't like (EG op exchanges or #amv-review) and this would give us a way to speed up the download and save the orgs bandwidth. It'd also provide a bandwidth savings from those who already have a video and are just downloading so they can leave an op (if this idea actually gets implemented it might be a good idea to have video/audio quality be unscoreable if the user only downloaded the preview version). Plus it'd be helpful for those poor souls still stuck on dialup, although that's somewhat rare these days.

On the down side it's possible bandwidth would increase as people downloaded the preview version then decided the video is a keeper and downloaded the full version as well. I suspect the savings elsewhere would more than offset that though. Honestly, how many keepers are there on the org after all. Second drawback is it'd require coding by the admins and I'm not sure if they're interested in that.

I believe filefront does something similar to what godix is describing

BS. The org exists for all amvs and the people who make them, not just for the best of the best of the best.

Arguing about quality is rather pointless as we wouldn't even consider flash video as a replacement to the current system. Perhaps as a supplement but nothing more. A preview or sample doesn't need to be high quality or even the same resolution as the original...

See AUN studios homepage for example. The video on the top left is pretty small and low detail, but it gives you a really good idea of the content of the video before you head over to the page to download it.

<strike>Once again though, even this isn't going to happen.</strike> Well... I shouldn't be so definite I suppose.

Has anyone even noticed this? I believe either TaranT or Zarx posted about this a few months ago while it was in development: Flash Player 9 now supports H.264/HE-AAC encoded flash video
