Bad reviewers

I suspect the result of requiring X words would either be people giving up and not writing the op, or more likely padding the op to make it enough words.

I wonder what the overall point of this suggestion is. So one or two bad reviews can kill a videos 'numbers'. And? I don't recall ever thinking about what other people would think about my videos when I made them...only what I thought about them. (Okay, that's kinda a lie...I worry greatly about videos I do for multi-editor projects, because I feel that it's that one bad video in a group effort that kind of spoils the rest...and I try to not have that video be mine....yes, really....if you've seen any stuff I've done in multi-editor projects you might be questioning this but it's true...) Half the problem with half* this community is the fact that they are making videos for numbers rather than for fun.....well, maybe that could be seen the other way, maybe I have the problem because I see AMVs as a way to express my inner silliness/weirdness better than my crummy pictures or poetry or any other artistic expression I've tried in the past.

*As always...77% of statistics are made up on the spot.

I think its fine as is. THe system already discards the lowest and highest single score your video gets when adding up the average for the top 10%, so a single flame opinion would get discarded anyway. Its pretty much already what you are asking for.

Single liner ops, while not very informative, is still usefull in that it tells you the general consensus on weather or not people like or dislike your video. Star ratings theoretically should also do that, but that system is inherently flawed aswell, since some lazy people will keep the video on their star list for a long time, then when they can't download anymore, randomly hand out stars just to clear the list so they can download again. Inherently the problem with both systems is in people's inherent lazyness.

And I inherently like to use that word inherent alot I see. Anyway, All things considered, I don't think the problem is so much with the system but with the people using it. And I don't think there is any solution that will solve it any better than it currently is.

If there was a system to delete any opinons, the only type i think should be considered for such a thing is the flamatory get even kind of ops that just bash the video for selfish reasons, such as to get even for a bad op or just out of spite. Even so, that power should probably stay in the hands of the Mods to weild when they see fit.

I don't see the problem. Some of my early reviews started out with for or five sentances. Then they went and turned into huge bloated beasts, till finally I settled into a reasonable format.

It seems like there is no winning with the whole OPs issue, since some claim that people won't even look at a video unless it has X number of ops, and others claim that only ops of a certain nature are good enough.

People that like to give ops and get feedback from the creators will do so regardless. People that, perhaps don't use english very well (half of my students probably), or are just not good at stating their cases shouldn't be penalized for at least taking the few moments to leave something. Sure, 'it sucked' and 'it rocked' doesn't tell you much, other than that your video mattered enough to say that.

Untill we start getting a bunch of Pointless Bob clones I wouldn't worry about it.

Since my videos do not have flashy effects or ultra popular anime, the stars they get are not all that high.

But the opinions they get with many high numbers sort of compensate for it.

I take a lot of stances based on smart things people say. Because if you don't follow others' (not just R.F.'s smart ideas), you're usually called stupid
