I think that'd be fine. Even with the Evangelion example, it would still cut out all of those entries that have non-evangelion anime in them.

Maybe an effective approach would be to allow a search for "at most X anime", so you could say at most 1, and use find-by-anime.

I hadn't thought about multiple anime names, that definatly makes it more dificult.

If it helps then the way I envision this feature is helping people find videos they've already seen (at a con maybe, or used to have). They know the video only has that one show so they can select: "Filter out multi source videos."

Strictness might be a good thing. say you want to see some Kenshin OAV videos, but if you search "Kenshin OAV" you get tons of videos that might only have a breif scene from the OAVs (or even from the whole Kenshin series.)

If you don't want to be strict (Evangelion=all Evangelion animes) You could just make it "any anime with evangelion in the name" only.

Plus there aren't that many anime with multiple titles.

It doesn't have to be a mind reader, any option would be helpful some cases.

Not that I know programming well enough to say but wouldn't it be fairly simple to have a 'Filter out multi source videos' option take the aliases into account? In Evas example all the options you listed are aliased so a search for Evangelion could safely included all those aliased options when displaying results. The only problem left would be vids where people did something like marking Evangelion TV and Evangelion Movie as source and they aren't aliased to each other, those would be dismissed as multi-source although most would consider them the same anime.

Or you could just make it a simple pattern match. A search for 'eva' would produce any anime with that three letter combination in it's name provided it was listed as a single source video. You'd still have the TV/Movie problem though. But really it'd be better to single source search that MOSTLY works than not have a single source search at all.

What about a 'more than 5' option for finding *just* multi-anime vids? We have some sort of code that keeps the anime names from showing when a video has more than 5 anime listed. Couldn't we use that to put those multi-anime vids in a searchable list?

It would be nice to be able to search according to how many sources a video uses (which works for those who don't want multi-anime vids *and* those who want multi-anime vids). But if that's too specific, anything at all that helps find multi-source vids would be nice. You could even put it as an option in the 'search by anime' section - a "Various" option.

Right now you *can* find only videos that use a single anime (it's really not that hard to ignore the multi-anime vids that pop up on the search - just don't click those results). There is no way to search for multi-anime vids unless you know one of the anime used.
