Adding "Buy Search" Links
di.fm has links to online stores that allow a search for specific song or songs. Maybe something like this could be added to each AMV page. It might help blunt any criticism from the music companies if the Org passively promoted the purchase of music.
Downside: it introduces more commercialism than some of us would like. And it would require more careful review of song names in the database.

If you reserve yourself to the idea that a general crackdown will happen, this adds an element of cruelty and irony to the eventual actions of the powers that be, that can be milked by the site in front of the uninvolved public -- posibly causing enough outrage to change laws. With the general voting apathy apparent in the United States as a whole, spin and gimmicks is really all any group without a fuck-ton of cash can really employ to invoke change.Zarxrax wrote:No.
Good intentions and whether or not this site causes music sales has absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand.
Pardon my extreme sentence structure and lack of propper grammer ... The more tired i get, the more i seem to think i can write like Henry James.

It's proposal was based on the fact that it might make the site look more friendly towards the music companies.Scintilla wrote:It doesn't have to have anything to do with any legal issues for it to be a good idea.
Note that I'm not saying that it is or isn't a good idea.
Taken out of the context of that, I don't see what it would add besides more clutter. If people want to buy a song that they heard on an AMV they can always do a search manually, they don't need a pre-made link for them to be able to find a place to buy it. In addition, I would guess that a large number of the links would not lead to anything that can actually be purchased from the stores that are used, making a large portion of the links completely useless. Plus you weigh it against the use it will recieve... how many people would actually use such a feature to purchase a cd? Maybe one out of 1,000? For the other 999 people who would not use it, its just clutter.

not wanting to get into the middle of this, but here's an idea:
what if we (meaning the admins, or whoever) contact a used cd retailer and then post 'buy it' links (with some sort of 'kickback' to the site if someone clicks and buys from the link). This way, the used cd retailer has some direct exposure to fans of the music (either linked on the download page, or whater), anyone who is interested in owning the cd can get it at a cheaper price (and still in very good condition most of the time), the site might gets some much-needed cash when someone buys something, and as it is a used cd store, there may not be the expectation for it to be in stock as it is a used cd store (maybe have the button say something like:
click to search for used cd's by this artist at _____.
Just an idea... some suggested places might be like www.spun.com or www.secondspin.com (I've shopped at both and each are great).
