Banner voting records

Post by BasharOfTheAges » Thu Aug 04, 2005 6:09 pm

Well, we have numbers here and there about how we vote (star-wise and opinion-wise) on videos, why not keep a tally on how we vote on banners? The contest has become such a large part of the site (though i'm not sure why) that it might be a good idea to have handy the number of ones that you voted worthy, those you voted unworthy, and the banners you missed voting on. I know it's just morbid curiosity that would spur this, but it serves just as much purpose as having a user know the breakdown of star rating they have given, right?

Mull it over, wont you?

Er... possibly actively discuss it afterwards then?

Shouldn't be to hard to put the text 'Voted against - everything. Voted for - 0' on the page, which would cover my record at least, but I don't really see a reason to do it...

Pretty much for the same reason the star scale numbers are put on one's download page for them to see i guess... they serve just as much of a purpose -- interseting data. I could see them possibly beign used for something (weighing future contests based on how hard it is to get a pass from a person perhaps)...

Most people don't review every video they download, so the 'my download' page helps them find the videos they liked - the ones they gave high star scores to. This is especially useful when it comes time to pimp your favorite vids for the vca, and to find links to those vids when you want to recommend them to friends, or to redownload one after a harddrive goes bad.

We don't have vca banner contests, the 'unworthy' banners aren't kept in the collective (the way videos with low star scores are), and there isn't a place on this site where we 'recommend' banners to friends, or have banners recommended to us based on how well we liked them. Aside from the competition between banner-makers, banners are not interractive things. We don't review or recommend or download or watch them. They're just there, random advertisements mostly made by the same two or three people.

Now...if we had a 'end of the year' contest with them, like voting for your favorite super bowl commercial (amvs = movies, banners = commercials), then I could see a reason to have links to all the banners you've liked over the past year.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not that into banners. Never made one myself, but i'd like to know if my estimate of 5% to 10% pass rate for me is correct.

Oh dear god, please don't give people ideas. There's enough angst and drama around banners as it is without giving a prize for the fucking things.

Why are there new banners? The only place I ever see 'Org banners is on the 'Org, and any site that links to us more than likely is using one of the much older banners...
