Opinions
Just got another one of those Good: Everything, Bad: Nothing opinions, and I was just thinking. Do we have anything to tell members that they need to write better opinions than that? I mean, the purpose of the opinions is to give helpfull feedback to the creator. I think the problem here is that the people leaving the opinions just don't know any better. Perhaps on the opinion page you could add a small blurb telling what opionions should be, or maybe a link to a page explaining it. I mean, for all these people know, they probably think they are writing opinions to help sway potential downloaders to watch or not watch a video, as thats how such a system works on most sites.

Um, we do have the guide to writing reviews:
http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/ ... /index.htm
And keep in mind that sometimes the most 'helpful' feedback is knowing whether or not a person enjoyed a vid. After all, if you're aiming for fanservice, you want to know if you serviced your fans. Just be careful - don't scare off non-editors. I can say flat out - if you don't watch good amvs (by accident or being forced to), and if you don't edit and learn about timing and capture quality and effort and sound quality - then you're going to talk about whether you liked the vid or not, and call it a day. Telling those people to accurately decide what capture quality deserves a 6 or an 8 is like telling someone who's never seen an amv to judge action sync. Explanations aren't going to make up for lack of experience at noting those things.
And we're still getting complaints that people don't leave reviews often enough. Run off the non-professional viewers and you'll get a lot less than we do right now, though the quality might go up. It would still leave out the non-pros and the ones who don't really care if they get timeframes so long as the viewer explains why he did or didn't like it. >.>

How about the "Creator Comments" box?Zarxrax wrote:Just got another one of those Good: Everything, Bad: Nothing opinions, and I was just thinking. All I'm saying is that I'm not sure that the people leaving the opinions really understand the purpose of the opinions. I mean I occasionally get some that are like "download this now you wont regret it".
And as far as the guide goes, if people that are MAKING videos can't even find the guides, how can someone that merely watches them find it? ;p Having a prominent link to it off the opinion page would be nice.
And as far as just knowing whether someone liked the vid, well thats covered pretty well by the star ratings dont you think?
I'm not saying I don't think people shouldn't leave opinions about how much they love or hate the video or whatever. Those are fine. If there is some actual content to them. When someone leaves an opionion thats like "Good: Everything, Bad: Nothing", what does that really tell me? Maybe that person does the same thing for any video that he thinks is above average, or for any video that he didnt get bored with and turn off. Did this person *REALLY* like the video, or just kinda like it?
So basically yea, as long as the viewer explains why he liked or didn't like it im fine with that. It just when they DON'T explain that I'm worried that they misunderstand the point.

Re: Opinions
You can reply to people's reviews. That gives you a chance to tell them that they are not using the 'opinionate' option correctly. If you want to explain, then that's your perfect opportunity - one-on-one with your reviewers talking about the review.Zarxrax wrote:Not quite sure I follow you.
